About this listen

An Instant New York Times Bestseller

Beloved bestselling author Mitch Albom returns with his most important novel to date, an unforgettable story of truth and lies set during the Holocaust.

Eleven-year-old Nico Krispis has never told a lie. When the Nazis invade his home in Salonika, Greece, the trustworthy boy is discovered by a German officer, who offers him a chance to save his family. All Nico has to do is persuade his fellow Jewish residents to board trains heading “north,” where new jobs and safety await. Unaware that this is all a cruel ruse, the innocent boy reassures passengers on the station platform every day.

But when the final train is loaded, Nico sees his family being herded into a boxcar. Only then does he discover that he has helped send them—and everyone he knows and loves—to their doom at Auschwitz.

Nico escapes—but he never tells the truth again.

In The Little Liar, Mitch Albom examines the human repercussions of deception by interweaving the stories of Nico, who yearns for forgiveness; his older brother, Sebastian, who vows revenge against him; Fannie, the girl who must choose between them; and Udo Graf, the Nazi officer who forever changed their lives with his lies.

Through the war years, the concentration camps, and the decades that follow, Albom reveals the consequences of each person’s honesty and dishonesty, bringing them back to where it all started in a staggering climax worthy of the best of Albom’s internationally embraced stories.

It’s interesting that “The Little Liar” reminded you of “The Mascot.” Both books seem to delve into themes of survival, identity, and the ways in which extreme circumstances can shape a person’s life in unexpected ways. Such narratives often compel us to reflect on the human capacity for resilience and adaptation, especially when faced with the horrors of war or the challenge of maintaining one’s identity amidst turmoil.

Reminded me the book called “The Mascot”

Another literary masterpiece Mitch! Your books are always written so eloquently, beautifully and with emotional simplicity. So much of this one resonated with me for what is happening in the world today. May we all learn its message.
I wish you many more years of writing books to teach us the lessons of living honestly.

I love how all the intricate details were connected in the end. This is no surprise when reading his books. Highly recommended.

The characters were fictional but the details of their lives hold many facets of what actually happened. I loved the fact that the author read the story. He is gifted not only in his writing but also in his ability with foreign languages and accents. Hearing the dialogue in my own mind, if merely reading the words, would not have made such a lasting impact. This is a story that transcends race, religion or age. It provokes thought about what we know or believe to be the truth.

A horrible story told in a sensitive way.

This is a wonderful book, well-read by the author. I have read many books about this terrible time in recent history, but this one stands out. The characters are so real it's hard to accept that this is fiction. The story revolves around four main characters and how their lives intersect during WWII and the years after. Told from the point of view of Truth, it's about survival, family, lies, misunderstandings, and ultimately love. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

Loved this book!

I was totally addicted. To the words, the storyteller and the anticipation of what to come next. By far, the best story I’ve read or listened to. I will buy the book and keep it, as I have many other Mitch Albom novels.

Absolutely loved.
