About this listen

Prue McKeel’s life is ordinary. At least until her brother is abducted by a murder of crows and taken to the Impassable Wilderness, a dense, tangled forest on the edge of Portland. No one’s ever gone in – or at least returned to tell of it.

So begins an adventure that will take Prue and her friend, Curtis, deep into the Impassable Wilderness. There they uncover a secret world in the midst of violent upheaval - a world full of warring creatures, peaceable mystics, and powerful figures with the darkest intentions. And what begins as a rescue mission becomes something much greater, as the two friends find themselves entwined in a struggle for the very freedom of this wilderness. A wilderness the locals call Wildwood.

Wildwood is a spellbinding tale full of wonder, danger, and magic that juxtaposes the thrill of a secret world and modern city life. Original and fresh yet steeped in classic fantasy, this is a novel could have only come from the imagination of Colin Meloy, celebrated for his inventive and fantastic storytelling as the lead singer of the Decemberists. Wildwood is truly a new classic for the 21st century.

Stellar book, great characters and plot. But oof, sorry this sounds so awful, I just cannot cope with Amanda Plummer narrating. I couldn't even focus on the story, she was way too extra to the point of constant distraction. I love her too, she is amazing. Just not as an audiobook narrator. So happy that the sequels have a different narrator.

I love Amanda Plummer but...

Everything was great I enjoyed the story and the way it was read. Can’t wait for the next book.

Everything

The wildwood series is fantastic, but boy oh boy did the narrator of this book suck the joy out of it. She managed to make all the emotions and dialogue seem simultaneously utterly obnoxious and astoundingly flat, which I guess is kind of a feat in itself, but maybe not one you want to experience while listening to an audiobook (especially not one with lots of emotion and dialogue like wildwood has). I’m really hopeful the rest of the series has a different narrator.

Great story, poorly told

The story was wonderful and Amanda Plummer brought it to life. Her performance is textured and masterful. We also started to listen to the 2nd book but returned it after listening for 15 minutes. By comparison, the author's narration was incredibly flat.

Amazing performance

I read the before long before I ever listened to it. And I loved both. The story is fantastic. Amanda Plummer is an incredible narrator. But the other books in the series are read by the author, who sounds bored in the samples of both sequels. I will not be listening to those.

Love this. Too bad I won't listen to the others.
