About this listen

A powerful dungeon. A sheep-herder turned Noble. Their path to ascendance through cultivation.

Conquering dungeons and using them to grow has long been the most efficient way to become a powerful adventurer. The only thing keeping the process from being easy is the Beasts that inhabit these places. Questions plague those entering this particular place of power: Where do the "rewards" of weapons, armor, and heavy gold coins come from? Why is a fluffy bunny charging at me? For abyss-sake, why are there so many monsters?

Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Core, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone. With the help of an energetic friend, Cal grows a dungeon around himself to bring in new sources of power.

When a threat he doesn't fully comprehend bares its many teeth, Cal is determined to survive the attempt on his life. Unfortunately for adventurers, the only way for him to achieve his goal is to eat anyone that enters his depths.

Very much enjoyed. Different to the usual revenge books I'm used to although some of that might be building up. Characters not there yet as little background emotional history known.

Different... Dungeon/hunted hse comes to life.

I stumbled across this book series and so glad I did. It's a great take on the usual dungeon RPG stories but you don't need to be super into the genre to enjoy it. Give it a try

Entertaining high power fantasy series, decent enough characters, fresh 'magic/lvling' system.

Story is more or less split between two MC's, a dungeon core and a young adventurer. Allows for a story to develop from two perspectives, discovering the world through both their views.

Later on more political, ethical, class and fantasy racial issues come into play, but the focus remains on personal character development.

Remains fairly 'grown-up', faux-flirty maybe, but no oversexed, contrived relationships.

Does not pull its punches when describing bodily harm however! This world is pretty brutal and gorey! Goes beyond broken bones and bruises often!

Cons:
- Magic/progression system in the world is not intuitive! Reader needs to keep in mind what 'Essences', 'Chi' and 'Meridians' mean and interact in order to understand what is going on.
- Some balancing issues, plot-holes creep in over time. High level characters are so much more powerful (basically Supermen) than normal people that a normal society seems increasingly unlikely. Low level people are sometimes cherished, protected and useful, yet also very expendable, die all the time.
- Female characters bit one dimensional, also rarely get hurt in a world with acid baths and where arms get ripped off.
Sometimes a bit too 'punny' (the dungeon core especially)
- Characters seem to have random mood swings, sometimes character emotions just 'happen' with no preamble, explanation or insight into their thoughts/state of mind.

Nevertheless: Entertaining fantastical tale.

Solid magic and dungeon fantasy romp series

This is a series that inspires creativity through monster and equipment creations that brings the feeling of progression that lit RPG's need to hold. The series drops towards the end as world building suffers problems, the story gets less disciplined and the characters become impulsive.

The heart of lit rpg creativity

The best part of this book is the concept of an entire Dungeon being a kind of Mimic and forming a symbiosis with Dungeoneers for food while giving them loot.

The worst is that the author isnt that great at writing stories. Its not bad and has its moments which were quite amusing but he needs to learn more, refine his ability. Same goes for the voice actor used too.

Im giving no2 a shot as I did enjoy the ride.

Great Concept, Novice Writer
