About this listen

Inspired by the film that delighted parents and children alike, this audiobook version of How To Train Your Dragon is a whole new experience that will have you falling in love all over again.

The story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III's rise to fame, through his dragon-training exploits, told in Hiccup's own words by David Tennant.

Hiccup was a truly extraordinary Viking hero, warrior chieftain, awesome sword-fighter and amateur naturalist. He was known throughout Vikingdom as 'the Dragon Whisperer' on account of his power over these terrifying beasts. But it wasn't always like that....

If you could sum up How to Train Your Dragon in three words, what would they be?

fun, funny, funnier

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hiiccup because he becomes a hero the hard way

Have you listened to any of David Tennant’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This one was every bit as good as all the other Hiccup Horrendous Haddock books he has narrated.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me and all the family laugh out loud repeatedly

Any additional comments?

This is the first of the How to Train Your Dragon series, all are narrated by David Tennant. This is very different to the film, but is an excellent book, very funny, my two boys, 5 & 7 years old have listened to it dozens of times.

A great kids book for the family

Cressida Cowell writing is gold. Captivating, exciting and well done. Coupled with the easy to listen to story telling voice of David Tennent, a match made for each other.

Exciting well written dragon lead adventures

The charactisation by David Tennant is very good, the story is compelling and I am sure children of all ages will enjoy it. The only problem I had with it is the music in between the chapters / segments is very loud compared to the voice... Other than that I would definitely recommend listening to this book as the characters are really brought to life by David Tennant.

(Also be aware the story in the film is nothing like the story in the book!)

Excellent Characterisation, Loud Music
