About this listen

One boy, one boat, one tiger....

British comedian, actor and broadcaster Sanjeev Bhaskar, OBE performs this brilliant edition of a work of fiction that is loved by fans around the world. After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a 16 year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orangutan - and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. The scene is set for an extraordinary adventure.

Critic reviews

"A unique and original story, brilliantly told." (Guardian)
"Pi is bewitching, the tale both nihilistic and naïve, philosophical and playful, deeply moving while always treading the line clear of schmalz." (Independent)
"Every page offers something of tension, humanity, surprise, or even ecstasy." (The Times)

Now one of my favourite books. Extrodinarily original story, beautifully creative and moving. Exceptionally narrated.

Bloody hell, what a book.
I thought this book was going to be pants.
Lack of characters, lack of setting etc made me think there wouldn’t be enough substance to make it 11 hours of enjoyable content.

I have never been so glad to be so wrong.

Book is in three parts and each part is a thing of beauty. Character depth makes you, as a listener, share in the tragedies and glories of the main character. At the end, I found myself feeling like I needed a moment just to gather myself.
The narration of the story is amazing. No one could have done a better job. Simply put, it was perfect for the story and bought it to life in a way that fit like a perfect cut jigsaw piece.

This is now one of my favourite audiobooks, up there with The Martian.

This book kept appearing to me and I refused to read it. But when I saw that Sanjeev Bhaskar was narrating it, I caved, and bought the audiobook. Then I became hooked and wanted to hear the more.

I never like to give away story lines, as I think each person should enjoy the right to encounter a new book without prejudice.
So, I recommend this book on its beautifully written story, and it's wonderfully executed storytelling.

Finally, I conceded.

A fantastic story. I have read this story previously and was gripped by it throughout. Sanjeev Bhaskar's narration added a new and enjoyable dimension to the story, bringing a total reality to it. Highly recommended
