About this listen
Pop star Leontyne Blake might sing about love, but she stopped believing in it a long time ago. What women want is her image, not the real her. When her father has a stroke, she flees the spotlight and returns to her tiny Missouri hometown.
In her childhood home, she meets small-town nurse Holly Drummond, who isn't impressed by Leo's fame at all. That isn't the only thing that makes Holly different from other women. She's also asexual. For her, dating is a minefield of expectations that she has decided to avoid.
Can the tentative friendship between a burned-out pop star and a woman not interested in sex develop into something more despite their diverse expectations?
Contains mature themes.

Find a membership that’s right for you.Now with all that out of the way, the book itself! It deals with a LOT of subject matter, from Leo feeling abandoned by her parents, outed against her will in what, at least seems to be her, to be a closed, judgmental community who looks down on her (we find out this is far from accurate), loss, dealing with loss and of course the big theme of the book, Asexuality. I think Jae handled it superbly and I can only imagine the amount of research that she put in to making sure the character of Holly was very authentic and even going in to detail about how her close friend, an aroace (aromantic asexual) person deals with her own relationship.
I could gush about this book a lot, but I'll just quickly cover what I liked. The representation was fantastic, the exploration of the relationship between Holly and Leo was well written and thoughtfully so and I think all in all the book is exceedingly well rounded.
In addition I think Angela provided an excellent narration, she has a fairly good range and I never found myself struggling to identify who was speaking.
All in all, very well recommended.
