About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Star Wars: The Last Jedi by Jason Fry, read by Marc Thompson.

Written with input from director Rian Johnson, this official adaptation of Star Wars: The Last Jedi expands on the film to include scenes from alternate versions of the script and other additional content.

From the ashes of the Empire has arisen another threat to the galaxy’s freedom: the ruthless First Order. Fortunately, new heroes have emerged to take up arms - and perhaps lay down their lives - for the cause. Rey, the orphan strong in the Force; Finn, the ex-stormtrooper who stands against his former masters; and Poe Dameron, the fearless X-wing pilot, have been drawn together to fight side-by-side with General Leia Organa and the Resistance. But the First Order's Supreme Leader Snoke and his merciless enforcer Kylo Ren are adversaries with superior numbers and devastating firepower at their command. Against this enemy, the champions of light may finally be facing their extinction. Their only hope rests with a lost legend: Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Where the action of Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended, Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins, as the battle between light and dark climbs to astonishing new heights.

Everything else was good, the narrator wouldn't stop mispronouncing freight. Annoyed me more than it should have.

The perfect reading

Amazing entry into the Star Wars universe. Such humanity in the characters. Gets a bit flabby around the middle with the casino planet but isn't a huge detraction.

Beautiful story

Jason Fry's deep-rooted love and understanding of the world created by Rian Johnson (and those of the wider canon) shines through here... and in turn, the quality and sensitivity of the prose gives Marc Thompson all the tools he needs to give one of his finest Star Wars performances to date. This work is vastly superior to the novelisation and performance of the last instalment, The Force Awakens - and although Thompson's wonderful Han Solo will be missed, he more than makes up for for the loss with the quality of his Kylo Ren, Hux, Snoke, Luke and Leia. Thoroughly enjoyed this version of Episode VIII and can't wait for the next one!

Easily one of the best Star Wars novelisations

As with most audio books, I found the voice over quite over the top at certain points, but overall I think the story was told with a lot of enthusiasm and diversity in tone. I'd say this was probably more enjoyable than the movie in certain scenes, except every major action sequence, which this depiction struggles to do justice. A good listen overall.

Faithful to TLJ plus extra tidbits for lore heads.
