About this listen
Following on from The Magician’s Nephew and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, this is a classic fantasy adventure from The Chronicles of Narnia.
Desperate to escape a harsh and narrow regime, two runaways unwittingly flee headlong into the centre of a terrible battle. This first sequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe includes all the hallmarks of its famous predecessor, though this time the fate of Narnia is wound up in the lives of its own children – and a talking horse!

The story is well read and started off very strong. It’s lasted to tail off a bit once it got to the latter stages of the book, but it is still a good read if you like this kind of thing.
I have bought all seven books in the series and look forward to reading them all .
A decent read in the series of seven

What made the experience of listening to The Horse and His Boy: The Chronicles of Narnia, Book 5 the most enjoyable?
Alex Jennings just takes you through it so naturally and his narration is excellentWhat was one of the most memorable moments of The Horse and His Boy: The Chronicles of Narnia, Book 5?
The council in the Tisroc's house and the council between the Narnians which Shasta overheard.Have you listened to any of Alex Jennings’s other performances? How does this one compare?
NoAny additional comments?
I remember a teacher reading this book to us when I was nearly thirteen and I found it rather dull, perhaps because of the way the Calormenes speak. However, when I was twenty, I tried it again, persevered and enjoyed it.This story is different to the others, in that no children get into Narnia from our own world, but it has an excellent storyline. Besides the story, Lewis throws in ettiquette for children, such as its being wrong to listen behind doors, and that a boy ought to love his father.

Horse and his Boy My favourite CS Lewis book

However, the majority of the story happens outside of Narnia, which is fine, but it definitely felt a little flat, Aravis and Bree are somewhat unlikeable for at least the first 2/3s of the story, and much like with TLTWATW, the lack of prose throughout the battle was a little disappointing. I'd have rather experienced the last battle from Edmund, Sashta and Corin's perspective as opposed to the Hermit and Aravis.
Shasta deserved so much better
