About this listen

‘We gotta get outa here. Get somewhere. Run away....'

The Socs and the Greasers are rival gangs from the opposite sides of town. The Socs’ idea of a good time is cruising around in their flash cars and beating up long-haired Greasers like Ponyboy.

Ponyboy knows what to expect and that he can count on his older brothers and other friends—until one night when someone takes things too far. Ponyboy may seem tough, but on the inside he is running scared....

A very moving account of disaffected teenagers growing up. It doesn’t matter when this was set or when it was written as the story is timeless and still as relevant.
The narrator was perfect!

This is a classic. A must read. I saw the movie as a kid, but listening to it in a Texas drawl is something else. Something good. Just listen to it!

This is my first time reading The Outsiders although I have known and loved the movie for many years. The story and characters are exactly as portrayed in the film and the character / world building is excellent for a relatively short book.
A sad book but also full of hope. Highly recommend.

Just like the movie

A great story of struggle, coming of age and societies judgement on people from different backgrounds. Highly recommend this emotional tale for young men.

I read this first when I was 15. Loved the book, loved the film and was hesitant to listen in case it didn't live up to my own expectations but Jim Fyfe nailed it.
A great listen from a great author and I only just learned she was 16 when she wrote it. Amazing insights
