The Romantic Tragedies of a Drama King is the hilarious YA rom-com debut from actor and comedian Harry Trevaldwyn, perfect for fans of Heartstopper.

First there was Bridget Jones. Then there was Georgia Nicolson. Now get ready to meet Patch Simmons . . .

Patch has decided that this is the year he will get a boyfriend. Fate finally intervenes when two new mysterious boys join drama club: Peter, who’s just moved from New York (very chic) and his best friend, Sam.

Patch is confident that one of them will be his first boyfriend. So, armed with his over-supportive best friend Jean and an alarming level of self-confidence, Patch sets out to make his mission a success. Whether or not they actually like boys or him is a problem for later.

"Funny and full of heart, Patch is up there with the great whingers Adrian Mole, Georgia Nicolson, and Bridget Jones. - Monica Heisey, bestselling author of Really Good, Actually

Genuinely cannot remember the last time a book made me laugh out loud so much. An absolutely brilliant story with a really lovely lead character; I normally struggle to connect with ‘awkward’ characters but Patch is so loveable and well-written that I’m sad I finished it so quickly. I think it’s really helped by the author providing the narration because he brings his creation to life wonderfully.

Full of laugh out loud moments!

This is absolutely not the kind of book I usually go for. I already knew Harry Trevaldwyn from his social media (and already found him hilarious), but something about a funny, queer romance novel for teens just sounded too wholesome to pass up.

And honestly? I was really pleasantly surprised. The plot itself is fairly by-the-numbers—nothing wildly original there—but the characters are vivid, funny, and genuinely well-drawn. It’s packed with heart and razor-sharp wit, and I found myself laughing more than I expected to.

Trevaldwyn narrates the audiobook himself, and he brings it. The character bursts out of every line, full of neurotic charm and chaotic energy, and it made the whole thing a joy to listen to. Not life-changing, maybe—but funny, sweet, and refreshingly sincere. I loved it.

Queer, chaotic, and unexpectedly charming

Beautiful written, cackled out loud so many times. It has been very healing to read this book and relate to the characters especially Patch for obvious reasons. I feel like every queer slightly eccentric theatre kid will understand and relate to.

Very entertaining and somewhat relatable book

Like it says in the acknowledgements, romance books are not usually for me. Despite that, I loved this book. So funny, great story, spot on narration Togo throughout. Where's the next one?!

Great story, even better narration!
