Sobre este título

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

All Systems Red tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot."

Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Most relatable android ish ever, and great audiobook narration as well. Highly recommended for all sci-fi fans and all humans, androids and bots in general as well.

I will start by admitting I went into this book (and this series) completely blind. I know there's a TV show because some friends were talking about it on Discord, where someone mentioned "the audiobooks are really good, they are narrated by Kevin Free from Welcome to Night Vale". I really wasn't paying attention to the conversation until I read "Kevin Free". And the only thing I took from it was "He has narrated audiobooks, I need to find them ASAP".

I saw that this book was only 3+ some hours long and dived into it. And what a trip!

Kevin does, as always, an extremely good job at voice acting, and the story was a novel experience for me. I don't read much science fiction. I like it well enough in movies and TV shows (even though I don't watch all that many), but sci-fi books just never managed to grip my attention long enough to actually finish any I tried to start. This time though, it really sucked me into it. I honestly had to pause my listening of the second book, to come here update that I had finished the first!

"Murderbot" as the protagonist calls itself, is a very relatable character for me. Every one of its thoughts, its feelings, its perpetual perplexity at the humans' behaviors when they try to include it in their group. Even its aversion to interaction and its tendency to avoid emotional responses and situations it doesn't know, or want, to deal with by burying itself in its preferred entertainment media, and *avoid* everything. It all hit very close to home for me. I know the trope of casting characters with autistic and/or other neurodivergencies traits as non-human is a double-edged sword, but in the case of this book, I think it was well done.

It's a really well-written book, all the characters are very fleshed out and feel real. Since the audiobook was so short I will guess that the actual book is probably small, so I would absolutely recommend it for people like me, who aren't really used to reading sci-fi, for people who do like sci-fi and read it usually, and for those who are maybe looking for a very cool reading about how it feels sometimes to be autistic in a neurotypical society.

This is also one of the very few books that I found being written in 1st person *adds* to the reader's experience of the story, instead of constantly thinking "that would have been better in 3rd person".

Starting it without expectations or preconceived notions is the best way to go.
