A celebration of (and how to find your own) queer intersectional identity through the lens of media

In Black. Fat. Femme.: Revealing the Power of Visibly Queer Voices in Media and Learning to Love Yourself, educator and media critic Dr. Jonathan P. Higgins―aka Doctor Jon Paul―delivers an honest and extraordinary new take on how the author, and other Black Fat Femmes like them, have come to find and understand their identity.

You'll learn about how standing at the intersection of multiple identities, communities, and causes shapes people and how they see the world. You'll also discover how public figures like Andre Leon Talley and Latrice Royale have helped people learn who they are and what is possible in life.

Inside the book:

• An examination of the importance of real representation in the media for marginalized people

• Discussions of the pioneers who fought so hard to be authentically who they are, both onscreen and off

• Explorations of how and why Black Fat Femme people have been left out and erased from LGBTQ+ conversations

Perfect for anyone with an interest in unique voices and truly singular perspectives, Black. Fat. Femme. is a one-of-a-kind book that will help you see the world with entirely new eyes.

Dr. Jonathan Paul has written a book of precious gems to hold close to our hearts and our soul. There were so many great and inspirational moments shared that I couldn't help but feel empowered after listening. Each chapter was full of raw realness from their struggles to success, but told in a way that I'm sure anyone can relate on some level. It's about love and loss but on all levels, including losing and loving oneself in a chaotic world throwing so many challenges. Ultimately, chapter 8 through 10 were my favorites and so full of wisdom. I also have the hardcopy. It's worth your time to listen and your time to read. This book will resurface the hope you thought was gone. Trust me.

It’s rare to hear a story that I resonate with within the intersections of femme presenting bodies in spaces society doesn’t believe we belong. And here you are: it was a privilege.

It was like we’re in the room together.

This book was something I never thought I needed—as an openly Black, attractive man, I didn’t think I had limitations. But reading this book has opened my eyes. I realized there are still areas in my life where growth is needed. An insightful and powerful read.

A new outlook on life
