An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life - until he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart.

But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter read, and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love - and face the hardest decision of his life.

It seems that Nicholas Sparks gets the best narrators for his books. Holter Graham made this story a little better than it really was. I like the characters and especially the relationship between John and his father who had a type of Autisum. This was such a sweet part of the book and it brought me to tears a lot of the time.
I wasn't crazy about the ending. I would have written it a little different but I still give it 5 stars. This wasn't as good as The Notebook or The Last Ride, but it is a good one.

Story and especially the Narrator was great

There isn`t much to say about this book, it`s a love story between two star-crossed lovers, but that is you average Nicholas Sparks. I would suggest watching the movie with your SO. You`ll take more out of it.

An enjoyable book as one drives to work. Did not want it to end.

Not my favorite of Sparks books. The ending was sad and disappointing. I kept expecting the two main characters to get together.

Good story
