Capturing the distinct rhythms of Jamaican life and dialect, Nicole Dennis-Benn pens a tender hymn to a world hidden among pristine beaches and the wide expanse of turquoise seas.

At an opulent resort in Montego Bay, Margot hustles to send her younger sister, Thandi, to school. Taught as a girl to trade her sexuality for survival, Margot is ruthlessly determined to shield Thandi from the same fate. When plans for a new hotel threaten their village, Margot sees not only an opportunity for her own financial independence but also perhaps a chance to admit a shocking secret: her forbidden love for another woman. As they face the impending destruction of their community, each woman - fighting to balance the burdens she shoulders with the freedom she craves - must confront long-hidden scars.

From a much-heralded new writer, Here Comes the Sun offers a dramatic glimpse into a vibrant, passionate world most outsiders see simply as paradise.

Now that this book is finished! It is a very raw and uncensored image of post colonial Jamaica. There are so many layers to this story and the characters; I never knew what would happen next. Great read! Very well read by Bahni as well

I feel empty...

I wish I could burn this book from my memory I knew upon listening that there would be no happy ending this story is filled with the type of bleakness and despair that makes me lose my faith in humanity I have the story a 2 because it’s just hurt too much to listen too and I mad that I could not listen

Ain’t no sunshine

‘Here Comes the Sun’ paints a vivid picture of what life is like in the part of Jamaica that tourists don’t see. It’s also a cautionary tale for those who are willing to do anything to get ahead. The characters are complex and ruthless. The story, while it takes a bit to get going, was engaging and thoughtfully laid out. I thought the writing was great and between the vivid descriptions and the patois dialog I felt as if it transported me to di island of Jamaica.

The narrator does a great job with the dialog and really adds to the enjoyment of the story.

a vivid tale

The author does a great job describing scenic Jamaica. A great story about poverty and the need to make a life for the underclass of women. I enjoyed the narration because it portrayed the accent of Jamaica to a tee. Another story of the unfortunate tactics underpowered women must resort to live. Also the Jamaican disdain for the gay population of the country. I enjoyed listening to this book better than I enjoyed reading it. I would recommend to friends and my daughter especially. I like showing my daughter the lives of other growing up in other environments and the choices they must make.

Narrator is Excellent

I was a little concerned about how the book would end based on other reviews. One of my pet peeves about books is when the ending feels unfinished. I suppose there was a little of that here in the sense that it would have been nice to learn more about what happened to a couple of the characters but overall this was a good story with authentic descriptions and realistic dialogues etc. And to be honest, even the ending was realistic and me wanting more says more about how interesting the characters are. This story stands alone, but it could easily also have a part 2.

Authentic

I think this book is very well and amazingly written. I am unable to finish the book after I read where the little girl that got hurt.
I read the books just escape from my reality and I did not know that this book was about the subject it is about.
I have lived through such life and did not want to read about it as well, as it reminds me of my own.
I am returning this book because I think the description should be a little bit better because without disrespecting the author I would’ve have chosen a different book for me

Wonderfully written

The narration by Turpin was outstanding as always, breathing life into the various characters moving through a fast-paced, interesting storyline. While no literary masterpiece, it was an excellent cultural snapshot.

Beach Read

This book was written with such clarity of characters and scenery I felt like a close observer standing by the sidelines going through every emotion and situation. I appreciated the language which at times read like eloquent poetry. Very good read!

Execellent read!
