A hilarious memoir of home truths and whatever the opposite of "that girl energy" is, from one half of the hit podcast Toni & Ryan.

Like most of us, Toni Lodge tells little white lies all the time. Whether it's "I'm five minutes away" or "It must have gone to my spam folder", most of these innocent fibs are harmless. But what if you realised that you weren't just lying about the little things, but the big "life" stuff too?

When Toni sat down to write this memoir, she realized that the lies she was telling herself were hiding some pretty important home truths—about her work, her identity and her mental health. In her dogged pursuit of these truths, she brazenly explores everything from gastro, fame and Twilight to funerals, the Dalai Lama and Brazilian waxes.

In this hilarious warm hug of a book, Toni exposes the lies she has told herself about who she is and what she is capable of, inviting us on a riotous romp that will make you laugh, cringe, cry and utterly rethink the truth behind the stories we tell ourselves.

I knew when I decided to listen that I was in for some laughs; however, I didn’t expect to be brought to tears as well. Toni is a great story teller, and I cannot wait to enjoy her podcast. Not me also realizing that I might also have OCD now.

Looking for a laugh? Looking for a good sob?

There are certain people you come across and immediately know they have the "it" factor. With Ellen DeGeneres, it's her dance moves, kindness, and inner joy. With Marilyn Monroe, it was her killer bod and sultry eyes. With Toni Lodge, it's her honesty, incredible speaking voice, and self acceptance. Toni truly is a star.

Like others, I found Toni and Ryan on social media and went straight down the rabbit hole of searching for every clip I could find. They are hilarious together, but what I loved most was their laughter at themselves. When I saw that she had written a book, I thought hmmm maybe a bit of a leap so soon in her celebrity, but that "it" factor made me want to buy it to support her on her journey anyway. A person's first book when so young has to be terrible, right? Nah. It was fire from beginning to end and I devoured it right up, listening to her talk about her lovely family, struggles with anxiety, gratitude found in little things like dancing in the kitchen, and even physical manifestations of grief. She is a heartfelt, intelligent writer and the fact that she narrated a book better than most seasoned pros is impressive. I have now listened to this book more than any other in my audible library and can truly say Toni has helped me on my own journey of self acceptance.

I Don't Need Therapy (And Other Lies I've Told Myself) is my love to see it. TARPer for life. xo
