The late Grammy-winning founder of the legendary pop/R&B/soul/funk/disco group tells his story and charts the rise of his legendary band in this sincere memoir that captures the heart and soul of an artist whose groundbreaking sound continues to influence music today. With a foreword by David Foster.

With its dynamic horns, contrasting vocals, and vivid stage shows, Earth, Wind & Fire was one of the most popular acts of the late 20th century - the band "that changed the sound of black pop" (Rolling Stone) - and its music continues to inspire modern artists including Usher, Jay Z, CeeLo Green, and Outkast. At last the band's founder, Maurice White, shares the story of his success.

White reflects on the great blessings music has brought to his life and the struggles he's endured: his mother leaving him behind in Memphis when he was four; learning to play the drums with Booker T. Jones; moving to Chicago at 18 and later Los Angeles after leaving the Ramsey Lewis Trio; forming EWF, only to have the original group fall apart; working with Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond; his diagnosis of Parkinson's; and his final public performance with the group at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Through it all White credits his faith for his amazing success and guidance in overcoming his many challenges.

My Life with Earth Wind, & Fire is an intimate, moving, and beautiful memoir from a man whose creativity and determination carried him to great success and whose faith enabled him to savor every moment.

I have loved Earth Wind & Fire since I was a teenager. I guess that shows my age, Shining Star, sing a song. where my favorite Earth Wind & Fire songs. it was interesting to hear Maurice's story of creating a band and touring in the 70s and 80s. as normal he got caught up with the excesses of having giant stage Productions and spending an excess amount of money on staging. it doesn't make the music any better but fun to watch. I felt like Maurice that's sold his soul for the music. and in the end did he gain anything personally. the narration was spot-on and very enjoyable, I felt like it was Maurice talking to me. great Rock history for the 1970s and 80s.

I Caught the fire.

I have loved the music of “The Elements”, before knowing who they were! I mean hits like Reasons, Serpentine Fire, Shining Star, Fantasy, Keep your head to the sky.... oMG I could go on and on! To learn more about where the name came from, the meaning to several songs, the different players in the band, and how that concert had people flying above the stage! Man! What a journey the book took you through! Loved this book almost as much as I lover EWF music! Maurice was a complex man that was was more introverted that I would have expected but so happy he let us in to his world in the book! With out Versuz last week not sure I would have searched this book out, glad I did!
