Stephen's god died on the longest day of the year....

Three years later, Stephen is a broken paladin, living only for the chance to be useful before he dies. But all that changes when he encounters a fugitive named Grace in an alley and witnesses an assassination attempt gone wrong. Now the pair must navigate a web of treachery, beset on all sides by spies and poisoners, while a cryptic killer stalks one step behind....

From the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author of Swordheart and The Twisted Ones comes a saga of murder, magic, and love on the far side of despair.

I really love all T. Kingfishers books but the narrator for the Saint of Steel has absolutely no emotion or feeling in his characters. Even the way the credits are read is very clipped and artificial sounding. He has such a lovely voice too so it’s a shame

Great book, boring narrator

I really like T Kingfisher’s stories and witty humor. I liked the readers voice just not with this type of story. The reader has great character voices but there overall style sounds slightly bored.

Great story

This was a really fun story. Light, but well written. And the narrator’s tongue in cheek delivery very much enhanced the humor.

Narrator enhanced the humor

This is the 3 rd book of Kingfishers. I have read/ listened to. I really enjoyed looking forward to the rest of the series.

I love a knitting paladin and I giggled entirely through it. This is my 2nd listen and I love it. T. Kingfisher is one of my fav authors

So funny

Strong point: love story of two people who thought themselves broken felt real. Weak point: lots of overly convenient coincidences and ‘villain’ characters acting irrationally infuriatingly in order to ‘raise the stakes’ and create frustration in the reader in a way that felt forced. Def worth it free, probably otherwise. Raunchy parts were a bit cringe to me but that’s personal preference

Pretty good, raunchy parts

The story was delightfully funny, had excellent timing, and wonderful characters. I fell in love with the world. It has left me with the distinct feeling that fantasy could do with more humor and this book nails it.

Not even sure if that’s a thing, but the way this was written and narrated felt so cozy - almost like a fairytale for adults. It felt like a grown-up romance, two wonderful main characters, and plenty of side characters that I hope to get to know more. It was also incredibly funny, which I was not expecting. I definitely plan to read more of this author!

Cozy murder mystery?
