In America, demons wear white hoods.

In 1915, The Birth of a Nation casts a spell across America, swelling the Klan's ranks and drinking deep from the darkest thoughts of white folk. All across the nation they ride, spreading fear and violence among the vulnerable. They plan to bring hell to Earth. But even Ku Kluxes can die.

Standing in their way are Maryse Boudreaux and her fellow resistance fighters, a foulmouthed sharpshooter and a Harlem Hellfighter. Armed with blade, bullet, and bomb, they hunt their hunters and send the Klan's demons straight to hell. But something awful's brewing in Macon, and the war on hell is about to heat up.

Can Maryse stop the Klan before it ends the world?

This list encompasses the full spectrum of what horror can be—campfire-worthy tales, stomach-churning gore, and incisive social commentary. The classics are accounted for, but it also spotlights more recent titles, because that’s the nature of the genre—it is as perennial as it is ever-evolving, conjuring whatever frights most haunt our collective consciousness. Each title does have one thing in common: It makes for devilishly good listening. So cut the lights and press play—if you dare.

The story is an incredible story of anger and hate. The way the author shows the differences in these emotions is astounding. The audiobook reader does an incredible job with the different voices and songs. Truly a beautiful book all around.

AMAZING

I love the universe that this builds, weaving all kinds of real historical and cultural touchstones into a rich mythology. I wish the other aspects of the book got as much attention—the characters are mostly archetypes and the plot never gives them room to do anything but the climactic move of what would otherwise be a chapter or series of chapters full of subtle discovery. This rushed quality robs most moments of their power, which are treated like big payoffs but have never been given enough time to build beforehand. However, I’d love to read more from this universe and from Clark in general. Narrator Waites does an excellent job. [AUDIBLE]

Excellent Universe and Narrator

I really loved this book! The idea was very creative and so was the plot. I liked how the author mixed reality with fantasy. It reminds me a lot of. Lovercraft Country. I didn't like the narrator. But other than that, a good solid read.

P Djeli Clark is my favorite author and while this book doesn't disappoint it's definitely different from other books of his. Leaning heavy on the fantasy/sci fi and horror much harder than the others. I loved it just as much! His wit and humor never fail. I am chomping at the bit to read his new book, "Abeni's Song"

Lovecraftian style Sci fi Horror Masterpiece

Clark is so skillful at showing the truth of history through imaginative storytelling. The emotions are intense - it’s good to make space for listening and absorbing. Ms. Waites’ narration also brings the characters to life in a wonderful way. I highly recommend!!
