Shaky is a sharp, soulful, and surprisingly romantic comedy about Nicole, a 30-year-old drummer whose wild-child lifestyle screeches to a halt after a shocking Young-Onset Parkinsonโ€™s diagnosis. Her plan? Keep partying, keep drumming, and pretend nothingโ€™s changed.

But when she crashes back into her childhood homeโ€”complete with her no-nonsense mom and painfully put-together younger sisterโ€”Nicoleโ€™s carefully constructed denial starts to unravel. As old tensions flare and new romantic sparks fly, sheโ€™s forced to confront the one thing sheโ€™s been avoiding: her future.

Messy, funny, and full of heart, Shaky is a story about losing control and learning to love anywayโ€”your body, your people, and maybe even that one guy you swore youโ€™d never catch feelings for.

I dislike the story was so short but I love the fact that it was reality

being a drummer myself for over 20 years I understand when you lose stability to do what you love

The storyline is exceptionally well-crafted. It is truly remarkable how the narrative develops, immediately captivating the reader. The way the story incorporates diverse experiences related to disability is impressive, resulting in a rich and engaging narrative. While blending different elements can be challenging, the incorporation of humor is executed with great skill. The final product is a story that is both stimulating and enjoyable, making it a highly recommended read.

Very real book about someone having to cope with a diagnosis. I enjoy listening to this book during a road trip. It really made the drive go by faster and it was written beautifully with great actors doing the voices. I highly recommend!

As someone who has YOPD, comes from a Hispanic family and lives in a northern suburb of Dallas, I had to listen to this book to the end. It was okay at best, but I felt like they were throwing so many Parkinson's terms out there in a small period of time without really going into much detail. And for a main character who rarely went to her doctor, she sure did know a lot about different aspects of Parkinson's (DBS for example). Yes, some Parkinson's meds can cause obsessive compulsive actions such as gambling, shopping, sex, and drugs/alcohol, but this gal was over the top! Sometimes it takes years before those compulsions begin, if ever. I especially did not like the opening sex scene. Good thing I didn't have it playing out loud!
