From the acclaimed Nobel Prize winner: Two girls who grow up to become women. Two friends who become something worse than enemies. This brilliantly imagined novel brings us the story of Nel Wright and Sula Peace, who meet as children in the small town of Medallion, Ohio.

Nel and Sula's devotion is fierce enough to withstand bullies and the burden of a dreadful secret. It endures even after Nel has grown up to be a pillar of the black community and Sula has become a pariah. But their friendship ends in an unforgivable betrayal—or does it end? Terrifying, comic, ribald and tragic, Sula is a work that overflows with life.

Ms. Morrison read so eloquently and easily, but commanding like Shadrack. She was Nell. Her voice was Sula's. Stirring. Smooth. Sweet. Just like the easy, lazy days of my youth in the south. The book felt familiar. The characters, my neighbors.

Beautiful Read!

I loved listening to her read her own work. The story is cohesive and colorful. It is also dark and emotional. A true classic.

Pure magic

Toni Morrison is beyond reproach! But there were SEVERAL repetitions throughout the book of duplicated passages.... I would hear a chapter opening and listen for a couple of minutes and then it would start over—several parts of the book were duplicated in the studio and it actually got a bit distracting. I guess it’s another opportunity to hear the story but it distracts from what would have otherwise been a near-perfect experience. Please re-release this with a polished editing of the audio. :)

CLASSIC but the studio should have edited this

Such a sorrowful and inspiring story, so be ready to go through it. Excellently performed, of course, by the Queen herself.

Emotional Read
