Three bodies in a beautiful and luxurious bedroom.

Billy Harney was born to be a cop. The son of Chicago's chief of detectives, whose twin sister is also on the force, Billy plays it by the book. Alongside Detective Kate Fenton, Billy's tempestuous, adrenaline-junkie partner, there's nothing he wouldn't sacrifice for his job. Enter Amy Lentini, a hard-charging assistant state's attorney hell-bent on making a name for herself - who suspects Billy isn't the cop he claims to be. They're about to be linked by more than their careers.

One missing black book.

A horrifying murder leads investigators to an unexpected address - an exclusive brothel that caters to Chicago's most powerful citizens. There's plenty of incriminating evidence on the scene - but what matters most is what's missing: the madam's black book. Now shock waves are rippling through the city's elite, and everyone's desperate to find it.

Chicago has never been more dangerous.

As everyone who's anyone in Chicago scrambles to get their hands on the elusive black book, no one's motives can be trusted. An ingenious, inventive thriller about power, corruption, and the power of secrets to scandalize a city - and possibly destroy a family - The Black Book is James Patterson at his best.

Like always. This audiobook might be put in my re-listen list. The plot was good and notice the ending was a surprise for me. For instance like the protagonists father and what he did toward the conclusion of the story. This whole plot was for a black book that contain secret information which happens in today world and politics in my prospective. Good cop vs bad cop. Lol. I would recommend this to any other James Patterson fan. The only thing to keep in mind is just trying to keep the listeners to know what is happening throughout the story. But from other than that it is a great story to listen to.

Good story. Although it was kinda hard to follow the plot.

This was one of those books that really kept you on edge, I was wrong on all accounts, couldn't keep this one away from my ears long.

Nail biting ending!

This book had me shouting out in my car as I drove home. Thoroughly enjoyed the plot and being a Chicagoan myself made it even more enjoyable. A great performance by Edoardo Ballerini.

Excellent story and masterful performance

The ending was like a completely different book. The ending had nothing to do w the mystery.

Disappointed

The story read like an episode of Law & Order, where I wouldn’t have devoted more than a two-part episode to it - max 2 hours. There were well-laid hints throughout that were almost too overt, as I predicted the whodunit aspect easily by half. I upped the speed just so I could get through it and hear how it ended. Lots of drawn out, unnecessary fluff.

Voice work was pretty good, but the Chicago accent was more NY/Bostonian. It didn’t detract from the story.

Most of the characters are one-dimensional. Billy is your standard male hero: average and relatable but perfect and all the women want him. Billy has a mysterious history that tries to gain him sympathy points but the reveal is too late and falls flat. The women are sexist stereotypes: all gorgeous and “powerhouses” with their “power” rooted in sex appeal. Lastly, the writing gets redundant at some points where it seems the author doesn’t trust the reader: “Katie, my partner...Katie, my partner...Katie, who has been my partner for 6 years...Katie, who I’ve only ever seen as my partner.” The re-introduction of characters and their roles is non-stop and irritating.

Just OK

Great for travel listening on the highway. Flips from past to present. Not for young children.

entertaining

I thought this book was fabulous. Very suspenseful and kept my attention throughout on the edge of my seat. You will like it.

one of his best

Why all the rage these days about flash forward and flash backward - past and present. Maybe just the stories I pick out but the back and forth can get old. The story was good and a twist at the end made it a satisfying listen.

Cop and court room drama
