From NYT bestselling author Rachel Gillig comes the next big romantasy sensation, a gothic, mist-cloaked tale of a young prophetess forced on an impossible quest with the one knight whose future is beyond her sight. Perfect for fans of Jennifer L. Armentrout and Leigh Bardugo.

Sybil Delling has spent nine years dreaming of having no dreams at all. Like the other foundling girls who traded a decade of service for a home in the great cathedral, Sybil is a Diviner. In her dreams she receives visions from six unearthly figures known as Omens. From them, she can predict terrible things before they occur, and lords and common folk alike travel across the kingdom of Traum’s windswept moors to learn their futures by her dreams.

Just as she and her sister Diviners near the end of their service, a mysterious knight arrives at the cathedral. Rude, heretical, and devilishly handsome, the knight Rodrick has no respect for Sybil's visions. But when Sybil's fellow Diviners begin to vanish one by one, she has no choice but to seek his help in finding them. For the world outside the cathedral’s cloister is wrought with peril. Only the gods have the answers she is seeking, and as much as she'd rather avoid Rodrick's dark eyes and sharp tongue, only a heretic can defeat a god.

Critic reviews

"I’m obsessed with Rachel Gillig. The Knight and the Moth is achingly romantic, richly imagined, and told with a gossamer delicacy that keeps the pages flying."—Hannah Whitten, author of The Foxglove King
"With the headiness of dreams and the darkness of haunted abbeys, The Knight and the Moth is a dazzlingly transportive tale of love, salvation, and freedom that cements Gillig as one of the finest fantasy writers of our age. You will never want to surface from these enchanting, depthless waters."—Ava Reid, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Study in Drowning

“A gothic, romantic fairytale that feels like falling into a dark, strange dream—one you won’t want to wake from. With twisty parables, monstrous divinities, a slow-burn romance and magic with a deadly cost, the story of The Knight and the Moth unfolds like peeling back a gossamer shroud. Gillig has done it again—I’m obsessed.”—Amélie Wen Zhao, New York Times bestselling author of Song of Silver, Flame Like Night

Knight and the Moth is an exquisitely written story that completely swept me away from the very first page. Every line feels intentional, lyrical, and rich with emotion. The prose is nothing short of stunning—it strikes that rare balance between poetic and immersive. I love the authors previous work and she knocked it out of the park again!! Time to wait for book 2!!

Beautifully told

Broken and battered... perhaps beyond repair. My mind is broken, and my heart hurts. A lot. This book has obliterated me. I feel as if I'm bits of scattered stone swirling in a hurricane. And I'd take the journey all over again.

Those closing chapters kept shattering my mind. All the knowledge and the gargoyle's origin tale were so very clever. All the carefully plotted layering... I see it now. But I absolutely feel as if I'll never be the same.

This. This is why readers read. To be transported away, to live and breathe and bleed beside the characters. This is the hope, the dream we each carry in our hearts whenever we embark on a new adventure. Rarely do we find these elements, even in the best of books; even in our favorites. The combination is lacking. Not so here. This was... everything.

And I can't tell you more. Not without spoiling it for you. There are events that have wrecked me, truths uncovered, but I can't bear to bring myself to talk of them just yet. Except to say that Bartholomew was my favorite, even if Rory was delicious. This is Bartholomew's tale.

Oh, Bartholomew

This a lovely beautiful story. It's different and I love the weird aching tone.

There are some who will be drawn into the dark fairy tale and some who will not. Neither are right or wrong.

I personally was swept away by the magic and am glad that this story exists.

So Good

I loved this book from start to finish! I knew I had to give this one a shot after devouring One Dark Window and I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed the characters development and their relationships. My biggest takeaway is that every girl deserves her own gargoyle ❤️

I want a gargoyle now.

I really love her writing. Loved One Dark Window, and Two Twisted Crowns. That led me to this book. And I’m so happy it did! Loved the narrator too.

Love the characters

As someone that has adhd & dyslexia, my preferred way of reading is by doing an immersion read. Enjoyed the audible and it is on my re-listen list.

Absolutely stunning, original, darkly whimsical, and everything I was hoping for! I cannot wait for the next book! Rachel Gillig has quickly become my favorite author as I've come back to reading. I love the gothic fantasy vibes so much and she does it perfectly! This reader also did a beautiful job. I will look for other books she has narrated.
