From Liane Moriarty, author of the number-one New York Times best sellers Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, comes an unforgettable novel defined by her signature sharp wit, pause-resisting storyline, and lovable and eccentric characters.

A family secret explodes. A first kiss betrays. A mystery is solved. A marriage is tested. It all happens on one extraordinary night - the Last Anniversary!

Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one who got away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was going to propose, she broke his heart. A year later, he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now, Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island - home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.

Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions.

As Sophie's life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around - and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.

The narration is just terrible. Initially I thought something was wrong with the speed at which I was listening. The monotone makes it impossible to differentiate between the characters. I enjoy all of Moriarty's books but struggled to listen to this one in its entirety.

Wish the narrator wasn't so flat the whole time. The story would have been better with a variation in voices, or even some emphasis on certain words

story is good, narrator is ok

The book was fine but probably would have been better w/ a different narrator. She has a lovely accent but she had a robotic way of reading, sounding similar to my British Alexa. Her emphasis on certain words frequently was distracting. After a bit, I could ignore it but having listened to 300 audiobooks, she is by far one I would prefer to not listen to.

The narration will ruin it for you unless you listen to the story at a faster speed. Even then the narrator is extremely monotone, but it definitely improves it. The story is very enjoyable and satisfying, as all the Moriarty books I’ve read, so I didn’t want to abandon it due to the narrator.

Listen to it at 1.5 speed!

The story is intriguing, and therefore sucking me in to stay listening. However, the narration is so bad that I almost had to bail after the first 5 minutes. Her voice is not unpleasant, it is just that it is extremely monotone, lacking appropriate inflection. It’s very distracting to the story.

Worst. Narration. Ever.
