INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The world’s most celebrated thriller writer and author of The Da Vinci Code returns with his most stunning novel yet—a propulsive, twisty, thought-provoking masterpiece that will entertain audiences as only Dan Brown can do.

Robert Langdon, esteemed professor of symbology, travels to Prague to attend a groundbreaking lecture by Katherine Solomon—a prominent noetic scientist with whom he has recently begun a relationship. Katherine is on the verge of publishing an explosive book that contains startling discoveries about the nature of human consciousness and threatens to disrupt centuries of established belief. But a brutal murder catapults the trip into chaos, and Katherine suddenly disappears along with her manuscript. Langdon finds himself targeted by a powerful organization and hunted by a chilling assailant sprung from Prague’s most ancient mythology. As the plot expands into London and New York, Langdon desperately searches for Katherine . . . and for answers. In a thrilling race through the dual worlds of futuristic science and mystical lore, he uncovers a shocking truth about a secret project that will forever change the way we think about the human mind.

Critic reviews

“Intellectual fuel.... [The Secret of Secrets is] a wistful testament to the power of the printed word.” New York Times

“Like so many things that are insanely popular.... Brown’s thrillers look easy to imitate but aren’t. He shatters dramatic moments into shiny, irresistible shards.... Dan Brown clearly had fun writing his new book. It’s contagious.” Washington Post

“A master of the brainy, twisty thriller.... [Dan Brown's] novels move with kinetic energy, his plots are intricate puzzles shrouded in religious iconography [and] ancient cryptography. The Secret of Secrets is perhaps his most ambitious undertaking yet: a dense thriller that is also a meditation on the nature, and the possible future, of human consciousness.” Los Angeles Times

Editorial Review

The wait is over
After nearly eight years, Dan Brown returns with another thrilling addition to his legendary Robert Langdon series. This time, the professor is in Prague to attend a lecture by noetic scientist Katherine Solomon—a woman he’s also newly dating. The action kicks off quickly with a murder and then a disappearance. From there, the gripping plot spans both continents…and consciousness. Brown’s talent for immediately sucking you into the plot has only strengthened in his near-decade off, and the science explored—along with Brown’s disclaimer at the top of the book that all science and experiments you’ll hear about are real—is chilling. Performed by series narrator Paul Michael, I can safely say The Secret of Secrets was worth the wait.—Katie O., Audible Editor

The storyline kept my interest the whole time. Each twist and story was surprising and unexpected. This is typical Dan Brown.

Well, written as usual.

The struggle of consciousness.

Dan Brown gives another intriguing and intricately formulated action adventure depicting the eternal conflict between good and evil. This time the timeless dynamic plays out in the realm of neuroscience, which is presented as being on the brink discovering answers to humanities biggest question. However, and not surprising, the amazing advancements, capable of taking our species to higher levels of understanding, become weapons in the competition for global dominance. May there always be heroic souls determined to intervene.

Having read/heard this story makes me question how much we know about consciousness. It makes me wonder about actual research and how much of the story Dan Brown invented.

It felt real... plausible

As always, I enjoyed this book by Dan Brown. He always makes me question how we, the average citizen, REALLY knows what is going on in the scientific world and/or in conjunction with the government (or with OTHER governments).

This book makes one seriously think about how the brain functions, how much we actually use its potential, how much is untapped and most especially, about what may be coming in the very near future.

Having said that, I often find myself while listening/reading Mr. Brown’s wanting to yell, “In plain ENGLISH please!” and “GET TO THE POINT ALREADY!!!”

I often wonder if Mr. Brown just likes going on and proving how smart he (and the people who help him write his books are). People this brilliant could be seriously INSUFFERABLE if they let themselves be.

I enjoy far more the chases of the characters around scenic places and the interaction between characters minus ALL the scientific stuff. The scientific stuff IS necessary to story development, but there could be a WHOLE LOT LESS OF IT without taking away from the characters or the overall story.

I’m on Chapter 100+ and there are still five hours left in the book! I enjoy science, but a lot of the scientific stuff is above the understanding of your average bear (me). I’m by no means stupid, but unless you have a huge, deep interest in the scientific world, the book can be tedious. Too much detail and too many words to explain it all. After a while I found my eyes glazing over and my mind wandering…

I don’t mean to sound critical — I know Mr. Brown and his researchers do an ENORMOUS amount of work before the book is ever published, and I truly do appreciate that fact.

Overall, despite my complaints, I would recommend this book to others.👍

BTW — after this book, I will never again look at a Starbuck’s cup in quite the same way.😊

ANOTHER GREAT ADVENTURE BY DAN BROWN…

Another imaginative chapter in the story of Robert Langdon. Not Brown’s finest work as it tries to tackle too much— noetics, AI, VR, etc— in an effort to make for a cutting edge thriller, oftentimes straining the belief one affords even a fictitious, thriller novel, but it still makes for a compelling, ripped from the headlines saga.
