Palmerston North start-up Andfoods has secured its first overseas market for its dairy-free whipping cream in Singapore.
The product is made from fermented black mung beans and is designed to perform in hot and humid climates. It uses a patented process that removes the bean’s plant taste.
The company said the mung bean’s polysaccharides allowed the cream to create and hold structure on its own and could froth and stabilise better than any other plant material.
Andfoods Whip, which has a 12-month shelf life, can be used in bakery items and desserts such as cheesecake and chocolate mousse.
Andfoods is the trading name of Saber Foods. According to the New Zealand Companies Register, Icehouse Ventures is its largest shareholder with 39.6%, followed by Massey Ventures with a 17.6% holding.
