Before A Nightmare On Elm Street, Wes Craven Directed A Marvel Movie Streaming For Free
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Wes Craven was one of our true masters of horror. From his earliest works like "The Hills Have Eyes," to reinventing the slasher genre in the '90s with his meta classic "Scream," he was unrivaled in his craft. But long before Craven gave us an all-timer slasher with "A Nightmare on Elm Street," he dabbled in the DC universe for a comic book-based creature feature in the form of "Swamp Thing." If that piqued your curiosity, the good news is the movie is currently streaming for free.

Ron Silverman, ‘Brubaker’ Producer and Former Variety Critic, Dies at 92
Image
Ron Silverman, producer of films including “Brubaker” and former dean at the American Film Institute, died in July in Medford, Ore. He was 92.

After working as a reporter on the Arizona Republic, Silverman joined Daily Variety, reviewing films with the tagline “Ron” starting in 1957. Silverman began his career in production with Red Lion Films, a 20th Century Fox independent company led by Mark Robson, working his way up into television at Leslie Steven’s Daystar Productions and Warner Bros. TV.

Silverman had several credits as a TV writer, working on two episodes of the “Wild Wild West” series. For 18 years, Silverman collaborated with Ted Mann, the Minneapolis exhibitor who purchased the National General chain. During his years working alongside Mann, Silverman worked as a producer on projects such as “Brubaker,” “Buster and Billie,” “Lifeguard,” and “Krull.”

Silverman joined the faculty of the American Film Institute in 1981, working as a guide...

War Epic ‘Red Rain’ Named Vietnam’s Oscar Entry
Image
Vietnam has selected war epic “Red Rain” (Mưa Đỏ) as its submission for the best international feature film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

Directed by Đặng Thái Huyền and co-written with novelist Chu Lai, the picture dramatizes the 81-day defense of the Quảng Trị Citadel in 1972, one of the most decisive battles of the Vietnam War. The story follows a squad of North Vietnamese soldiers as they endure relentless bombardment and mounting losses, while confronting their own fears and divisions.

Since its release earlier this year, “Red Rain” has become a box office sensation in Vietnam. The film has earned more than VND714 billion ($28 million) and sold over 8.1 million tickets, making it the highest-grossing Vietnamese movie of all time.

The large-scale production featured a 50-hectare battlefield set and involved months of preparation across multiple provinces. Multi-camera systems were used to capture expansive battle scenes, while extensive practical effects and...

Channing Tatum Regrets Turning Down This Ryan Gosling Movie With 87% On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Had things played out differently, Channing Tatum might've gone down a very different road in the early days of his career. Given his athletic prowess and himbo allure, it's no wonder that Hollywood initially tried to position him as a stock leading man, starting with his turn as Duke in 2009's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra". But Tatum had already demonstrated his ability to go deeper emotionally as an actor, having played the eruptive Antonio as a younger man in Dito Montiel's dramatic film "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" three years prior. It was this role, in particular, that convinced Derek Cianfrance that Tatum would be perfect...

15 Best Movies Set In New York, Ranked
Image
At this point, the history of cinema in the Big Apple is a chicken-or-egg situation: Are movies iconic because they take place in New York City, or is New York City iconic because it features in so many movies? Perhaps it's a little bit of both, since it's one of the most populated cities in the United States and a center-point of east coast culture and the financial world. From the rise of the titular newspaper magnate in Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane" to the climactic alien invasion of "The Avengers," New York has been the backdrop for many of cinema's most memorable moments.

Yet, what are the best films ever...

Inside the ‘Task’ Biker Gang: The Story Behind the Real-Life Sons of Anarchy
Image
Initially, the Dark Hearts, the fictional drug-dealing biker gang in the new HBO miniseries “Task,” was born out of plot necessity. As IndieWire previously covered, the narrative structure of “Task” was inspired by Michael Mann’s 1995 crime classic “Heat,” placing its audience in the position of rooting for both FBI Agent Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) and the thief, Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey), he is chasing.

“Robbie’s a good guy, and I always saw him as a good guy, and Pelphrey saw him as a good guy, so we needed someone to add danger to the story. It was a plot need early on,” said “Task” creator Brad Ingelsby on an upcoming episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit podcast when discussing the origins of the Dark Hearts. “So, who’s closing in the walls around Robbie? The audience needed to be scared, and eventually you have to have a bad guy...

Every Zack Snyder Comic Book Movie, Ranked
Image
Of the 12 films under Zack Snyder's directing belt, half of them come from comic book worlds that are adored by millions. Some have been by-the-book efforts, whereas others are the consequence of the director taking beloved superheroes and villains and giving them his own specific spin (most likely while in slow motion). The outcome has led to some of the most divisive contributions to the genre and even played a part in one franchise being completely rebooted as a result.

Like them or not, though, Snyder has delivered some daring interpretations of well-known costumed characters. Doing so has allowed him to bring some of the most revered moments in...

Taylor Swift to Rule Box Office Again as ‘Showgirl’ Aims for $35 Million Debut, Topping ‘Smashing Machine’
Image
Taylor Swift, movie theater messiah?

The pop star is returning to cinemas with “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” which is tracking a debut of $35 million to $40 million over the weekend. Those projected ticket sales are significant considering “Showgirl” was announced just two weeks ago and is entering theaters with minimal promotion outside of Swift’s social media feeds. However, any box office boost might be short lived; “Release Party” is only slated to play screens for the weekend of Oct. 3 through 5.

“The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” should earn Swift her second consecutive No. 1 box office debut following her prior theatrical release, 2023’s successful “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” ($93 million debut). This new venture isn’t a traditional movie, or a concert film like “The Eras Tour,” but instead an 89-minute event with a new music video and behind-the-scenes footage. The “release party” — for which Swift says...

Why Andrew Garfield Won't Return For The Social Network Sequel
Image
Like it or not, Andrew Sorkin is making a sequel to "The Social Network." This time out, he's not only writing the script, but taking the directorial reins from David Fincher. When the news broke, the industry was abuzz with two major questions: would Jesse Eisenberg reprise his portrayal of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and would there be a role for Andrew Garfield's company co-founder Eduardo Saverin? Zuckerberg passed as soon as the project was announced, but Garfield's potential involvement remained up in the air — until now.

IndieWire caught up with the "Tick, Tick... Boom!" star on the red carpet for the premiere of Luca Guadagnino's "After the Hunt,...

Why Monster Creator Ryan Murphy Won't Make A Luigi Mangione TV Series (For Now)
Image
Ryan Murphy's "Monster" franchise has generated loads of views and notoriety for Netflix. The first season got the series off to a grisly start by documenting the vile crimes of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, then made an interesting pivot to Lyle and Erik Menendez's murders of their parents (who allegedly abused their sons). Who, exactly, were the monsters here?

This year, Murphy returned to the serial killer milieu with "Monster: The Ed Gein Story," which dives into the sordid tale of Ed Gein, who, along with murdering women, engaged in grave robbing and body snatching. Given that Tobe Hooper's "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" was based in part on Gein's actions,...

Amanda Seyfried and Mona Fastvold’s ‘Testament of Ann Lee’ Sells to Searchlight After Venice Debut
Image
Amanda Seyfried’s sweeping musical drama “The Testament of Ann Lee” has found distribution after its Venice film festival premiere, where it was embraced with a rousing 15-minute standing ovation. Searchlight Pictures has acquired rights for North America and most international territories with plans to release the movie theatrically in 2025.

Directed by Mona Fastvold, “The Testament of Ann Lee” follows Seyfried as the title character, the founding leader of the Shakers, a radical religious moment that began in the late 1700s. Lee, one of the few female religious leaders of the 18th century, and her followers were known for worshipping through ecstatic song and movement. Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman, Stacy Martin, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott and Matthew Beard also star in the film.

“I was raised in a secular household, and yet Ann Lee’s prophecies — however implausible — moved me deeply. Not because I share her faith, but because...

Black Mirror Fans Will Love This Chilling Netflix Sci-Fi Series With A Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Pantheon."

The convoluted relationship between man and machine is often the lifeblood of compelling science fiction. We've seen this play out in varying shades: violent creator-offspring dynamics in "Blade Runner," the encroachment of cybernetics on organic flesh in "Cyberpunk Edgerunners," and the absolute eradication of what makes us human in the technological dystopia of "Texhnolyze." Charlie Brooker's "Black Mirror" explores this concept by reimagining its ethics (or lack thereof), which is part of the reason why the series has been seminal in mainstream discourse since its release. Although newer seasons of "Black Mirror" seem to have lost their spark, it is still a worthwhile...

This post contains major spoilers for FX's "Alien: Earth."

Noah Hawley's "Alien: Earth" ends with an emphatic declaration. "Now we rule," says hybrid Wendy (Sydney Chandler), right after she locks up five morally ambiguous adults with the help of her brother, Joe (Alex Lawther). Among them is her creator and Prodigy leader Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin), who is quick to realize that he cannot manipulate Wendy anymore. Thanks to her newly learned ability to communicate with Xenomorphs, Wendy is now in control of the status quo to the point that she can completely demolish the aspirations of other global corporations. However, she says this as Weyland-Yutani troops arrive at the island,...

The Budget For The Dinosaur Movie Primitive War Is Shockingly Low [Exclusive]
Image
The world is slowly discovering director Luke Sparke's outlandish dinosaur movie "Primitive War." Following its limited theatrical run, the Vietnam War film/prehistoric creature feature has been gaining a following, mostly because it's as ridiculous as it sounds. It's also easily one of the best dinosaur movies ever made without "Jurassic" in the title. Amazingly, Sparke and his team managed to accomplish all of this on a remarkably tiny budget.

I had the good fortune of speaking with Sparke ahead of the U.S. digital release of "Primitive War" on October 3, 2025. During our conversation, I asked him about the film's budget, which had yet to be confirmed. The movie...

‘In Waves and War’ Review: A Moving Documentary About Wartime Ptsd That Actually Offers Hope
Image
Editor’s Note: “In Waves and War” originally debuted at the Telluride Film Festival in 2024. It opens at the Laemmle Monica in Los Angeles on Friday, October 3, 2025 before a Netflix debut on November 3.

Jon Shenk and Bonni Cohen‘s at times emotionally overwhelming documentary gets its title via a quote from “The Odyssey” that opens the film.

“By now, I am used to suffering. I have endured so much in waves and war. Let this next adventure follow.”

The Navy SEALs who are the subjects of “In Waves and War” aren’t just used to suffering. Many long thought that bearing the emotional cost of suffering was their only option. Multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq over years left unseen scars as wall as visible ones, and Ptsd can be so intractable an enemy, despite multiple therapies and prescription drugs, that a lot are left to think that just “bearing...

David Fincher Called The First Draft Of Fight Club 'Pathetic' (For A Good Reason)
Image
David Fincher's 1999 comedic thriller "Fight Club" has become a somewhat controversial part of our pop culture landscape in the more than 25 years since its release, but originally, the film's screenplay had significantly less bite. Speaking to The Guardian at a British Film Institute (BFI) event in 2009, Fincher shared that the original script for "Fight Club" lacked the voice-over that would one day become one of the movie's trademark identifiers. "Fight Club" just wouldn't work without star Edward Norton's voice-overs as the pitiful protagonist, a sad sack insurance company number cruncher known only as "the narrator" or "Jack," based on his habit of referring to himself as Jack's various...

Sharjah Film Festival: A Festival With Heart and Purpose, Rooted in Youth Voices
Image
When the 12th edition of the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth rolls out its green carpet on Oct. 6, it won’t be chasing star power or celebrity glitz. Instead, under the leadership of Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, the festival has built a reputation as a platform with “a heart and purpose,” driven by education, cultural exchange, and a commitment to amplifying young voices.

Launched in 2012 at the behest of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, the festival began as the first event in the Gulf dedicated exclusively to children’s cinema. The director recalls, “People were not so aware that there were different types of children’s films. There are documentaries, there are shorts, different kinds of animation.”

She stresses that the vision was always distinct from other regional showcases. “Her Highness envisioned a festival with a different purpose,...

How To Watch The Conjuring: Last Rites At Home
Image
James Wan just seems to have the magic touch. Just about every one-off horror film he's created from the ground up has given rise to a long-running franchise that shows no signs of stopping. This is especially true for "The Conjuring," which has blossomed into a successful cinematic universe that officially consists of nine films. With "The Conjuring 2" being the last one of these that Wan actually directed, the baton has been passed to Michael Chaves with "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It," "The Nun II," and now "The Conjuring: Last Rites."

"Last Rites" is a "Conjuring" movie with a whole lot on its plate. In addition...

Nicole Kidman Files for Divorce From Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman has officially filed for divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, Variety has confirmed. News of the Oscar winner filing paperwork in Nashville arrives one day after Variety confirmed Kidman and the country music star were separating. The former couple share two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, who are now 17 and 14 years old, respectively.

Urban and Kidman got married in Sydney, Australia in June 2006 after meeting a year prior at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles, an event promoting Australia. They went on to become one of Hollywood’s most visible power couples for nearly two decades, with Urban often attending Kidman’s various film events (from premieres to award ceremonies like the Oscars and Emmy Awards) and Kidman attending Urban’s concerts and other music events. 10 Star Trek Moments You Didn't Know Were Improvised
Image
For a science fiction franchise as tightly and carefully plotted as "Star Trek," there isn't a tremendous amount of room for its actors to improvise. Given the level of special effects involved, this is expected, but there are moments when performers get to add memorable, unscripted bits to "Star Trek" shows and movies. Particularly in the franchise's early days, scenes improvised by its main characters helped define "Star Trek" into the enduring phenomenon that it would become. Even now, as the sci-fi property finds new life streaming on Paramount+, there are still fan-favorite moments that were initially unplanned by the writers and producers.

Whether it's off-the-cuff suggestions informing foundational elements...

Tim And Eric Had A Hilarious Response To Shows Disappearing From Streaming
Image
In 2020, alt-comedy heroes Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim released their latest Adult Swim series, "Beef House," an absurd parody of 1980s and '90s sitcoms. Or did they? In recent years, fans of the duo have been reminiscing about having watched the show despite the fact that this series is nowhere to be found — like, nowhere. It has disappeared completely, leading some to question whether it even existed in the first place. Are fans suffering from the Mandela Effect en masse? Well, according to Tim and Eric, that's exactly what's going on.

AFI Fest 2025 Unveils Full Lineup: ‘Song Sung Blue’ World Premiere, Plus ‘Christy,’ ‘The Plague,’ and More
Image
AFI Fest is unique in the festival ecosystem for not being tied quite as directly into the awards season conversation as other fall festivals: Certainly, as always, there are many top Oscar contenders in the 2025 AFI Fest lineup, shared below — “Bugonia,” “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” “Jay Kelly.” But also some quality films that probably don’t have the marketing budgets to launch a major Oscar push such as Ira Sachs’ “Peter Hujar’s Day” or Kristen Stewart’s “The Chronology of Water.”

In that sense, AFI Fest’s cinephilia isn’t overly tied to Oscar forecasting: Look at how the John Williams documentary “Music by John Williams” opened last year’s festival and “All of Us Strangers” headlined the 2023 edition.

Check out the full 2025 AFI Fest lineup below. All language comes courtesy of the festival. The festival runs October 22-26.

This Western Series Turned The Old West Into A Playground For Twilight Zone-Style Twists
Image
In the American West, a cursed gun brings misfortune to those who possess it. The pistol's origins are unknown, but its dark legend suggests that the weapon isn't man-made. (Spoiler: it is not.) That's the concept behind "Dead Man's Gun," a Western anthology series that aired on Showtime for two seasons in the late '90s. But this is no ordinary Western series, as the episodes' eerie plots and moralistic twist endings are more reminiscent of those of the "Twilight Zone" franchise than your average horse opera.

The horror and Western genres make for strangely compelling bedfellows on "Dead Man's Gun" — and it's much more grim than, say, "The Adventures of Brisco County,...

Teller will receive the Distinguished Performance Award following the screening, presented by his co-star and fellow honoree, Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”).

The festival’s Centerpiece Gala, set for Thursday, Oct. 30, will feature the highly anticipated Focus Features film “Song Sung Blue,” written and directed by Craig Brewer. Based on a true story, the film stars Academy Award nominees Hugh Jackman (“Les Misérables”) and Kate Hudson...

Dolly Parton to Miss Oscars’ Governors Awards Amid Health Concerns
Image
Dolly Parton, the legendary singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist, will not attend this year’s Governors Awards in November, where she was set to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Variety has confirmed.

On Sunday, the country icon announced that she is postponing her December concert dates at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas — her first residency in the city in 32 years — citing health issues and revealing that doctors have advised her to undergo “a few procedures.”

In a statement posted to social media, Parton, 79, said the recovery time will prevent her from properly preparing for the Las Vegas performances. She emphasized her desire to be in top form when she returns to the stage. The postponed concerts have been rescheduled for September 2026.

The health issues apparently also mean that Parton will not appear at the 16th annual Governors Awards ceremony, which is scheduled for Nov.

How The Pandemic Gave HBO One Of Its Biggest Shows In Years
Image
Remember 2020? It sucked, to put it lightly. In March, the world basically shut down due to the massive surge of the Covid-19 pandemic, for which there was no vaccine until 2021. The entertainment industry closed its doors while the medical community underwent a horrifying crisis. These days, Covid is still, to be clear, a big problem — cases of long Covid can be unbelievably dangerous, and vulnerable populations still need to safeguard against it — but it's not the worldwide upheaval it once was. From this, though, HBO Max's massive hit series "The Pitt" emerged. How? Let former "ER" star Noah Wyle, who works as an executive producer and stars as Dr.

James Gunn's Superman Scored The Best HBO Max Debut Since 2023's Biggest Movie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

"Superman" soared in its debut on HBO Max. Director James Gunn's take on DC's famed superhero hit theaters over the summer and, though not as big a box office hit as Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" was in 2013, it was met with overwhelming positivity critically and helped set the new DC Universe up for success. Now, an even larger audience is catching up with the movie, now that it's readily available from the comfort of home.

According to Variety, "Superman" amassed 13 million views in its first ten days of availability on HBO Max. That makes it the streamer's...

Why Jacob Elordi Replaced Andrew Garfield In Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein
Image
Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" is heading to Netflix later this year, but Andrew Garfield won't be part of the festivities. The "Social Network" star was originally cast as the Creature, only to drop out of the project and be replaced with "Euphoria" star Jacob Elordi, who we now know declined to audition for James Gunn's "Superman." With that in mind, why did Garfield drop out of del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelley's iconic sci-fi horror story? And what made Elordi the director's next pick to play the Creature?

In an interview with Empire Magazine, del Toro revealed that Garfield's schedule was too full after Hollywood reopened following...

George Lucas' Original Concept For Indiana Jones Was More Promiscuous
Image
Indiana Jones debuted in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," but he took shape almost a decade prior in the mind of George Lucas. Any Indy fan will know that, with Indiana Jones, Lucas was attempting to reimagine the Rko adventure serials he loved as a kid, but there was so much more that went into the creation of the character and his first adventure. Lucas dreamed up Dr. Henry Jones Jr. in 1973, but it would take a while to really define the daring archaeologist. For one thing, the director was busy with a little movie called "Star Wars," but even as he brought his seminal space opera to fruition the idea for Indy persisted,...

Steve Buscemi Failed His Audition For This Danny DeVito Comedy With 82% On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Steve Buscemi is one of those actors who seems ubiquitous, having racked up over 100 movie and TV credits and even become the subject of an evergreen meme ("How do you do, fellow kids?") on his way to becoming a national treasure. He put in the hard yards after making the transition from firefighting to acting, landing a variety of bit parts in the mid 1980s and working the club circuit as part of a duo with Mark Boone Junior. Gradually, he found his niche, playing quirky, fast-talking little guys for the likes of Martin Scorsese (the "Life Lessons" segment of "New York Stories"), Jim Jarmusch ("Mystery Train"), and the Coen...

Good Boy Review: This Haunted House Movie From The Pov Of A Very Good Dog Is Inventive And Creepy
Image
Horror movies are prone to recycling the same ideas over and over again. That's not necessarily a bad thing: there's comfort in familiarity. But every now and then, someone manages to tweak the formula ever-so-slightly in a way that feels almost ingenious. "I'm surprised no one has really done this before!" you might end up thinking. Recently, films like "In a Violent Nature" (a slasher movie told from the Pov of the slasher) and "Dangerous Animals" (a serial killer movie where the killer feeds his victims to sharks) have found clever ways to take well-worn subgenres and do something fresh into them. Now, Ben Leonberg's enjoyable creepshow "Good Boy" joins the list.

Mad Men (2007)
‘I am quite tough’: Schindler’s List star Embeth Davidtz on her explosive film about Rhodesia’s final days
Mad Men (2007)
After starring in Mad Men, Californication, Spider-Man and Junebug, Davidtz soured on acting. Now she’s directed – and starred in – a powerful debut film

Born in the US, raised in apartheid-era South Africa, a reluctant star in her 20s following her big break in Schindler’s List, and now a first-time director at the age of 60, Embeth Davidtz knows what it means to be an outsider. “I’ve always had the feeling,” she says, “that I don’t quite belong.”

Normally found in Los Angeles – where she lives in a house once owned by Julie Andrews, with her husband, the entertainment lawyer Jason Sloane – Davidtz is today in Cape Town for work and family commitments.

Carmen Elektra Has One Simple Condition To Join The Baywatch Reboot
Image
The Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron-starring "Baywatch" movie was a botched attempt at resurrecting the franchise for the modern era. Despite the film's failures, though, the folks at Fox believe there is still an audience for shows about sexy people running around in bathing suits. In the hands of competent creators with the right cast in place, the new "Baywatch" probably could be a hit, as shows about attractive first-responders are popular (case in point: the "Chicago" franchise). Plus, it doesn't hurt that Carmen Electra, who played Lani McKenize in the original series and had a small role in the bizarre "Baywatch Nights" spin-off, is open to returning.

That said,...

Kenneth Branagh Narrating Audiobook of Anthony Hopkins Memoir ‘We Did Ok, Kid’ (Exclusive)
Image
It’s a “Thor” reunion.

Sir Anthony Hopkins’ upcoming memoir, “We Did Ok, Kid,” will be narrated by Hopkins’ friend and Marvel director Kenneth Branagh, bringing together two acting titans.

Branagh will be tasked with bringing Hopkins’ story to life, as the Oscar-winning acting legend reflects on his illustrious film and theater career, difficult childhood, and path to sobriety. Listeners will also hear from Hopkins directly, as he reads over a dozen of his favorite poems in his instantly recongnizable Welsh cadence.

“Writing this book has been a wonderful and fulfilling journey, and reliving so many turning points of my life and career has been emotional,” Hopkins said in a statement. “I am thrilled that listeners will also be able to experience this as an audiobook, and I am deeply grateful that my dear friend Kenneth Branagh has offered to narrate the audio, while listeners will also hear me recite...

Dwayne Johnson on Losing Weight to Play an Old Man in ‘Lizard Music’: ‘Think Clint Eastwood at 75 — Sinewy Muscles, He’s Lean’
Image
Dwayne Johnson and Benny Safdie celebrated the red carpet debut of their new film “The Smashing Machine” in Los Angeles on Monday night. But the duo is already planning for their next collaboration: an adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater’s novel “Lizard Music.” The former WWE star will play a 75-year-old man who is best friends with a chicken of the same age.

Johnson has lost a significant amount of weight for the role after packing on 30 pounds for “Smashing Machine.” “I’ve been dieting,” he said. “Happy to not be carrying all the weight. I’m able to tuck in my shirt now…I don’t look pregnant so it’s all good.”

He added, “Think Clint Eastwood at 75. Sinewy muscles, he’s lean. But it feels good.”

In “Smashing Machine,” written and directed by Safdie, Johnson stars as Mark Kerr, a champion in the early days of Mma fighting...

It's 2025 And I Just Watched The Big Bang Theory Pilot For The First Time - Here Are My Honest Thoughts
Image
My partner is one of those people who finds a show she likes and just blasts through episodes back-to-back, season after season, watching little else until it's done. It drives me up the wall at times because I'm more of a movie guy. I'll look at a season of 10 one-hour episodes where we still don't know the outcome (and might never if the show gets canceled) and see it as a missed opportunity to watch five films where I'll actually find out what happens in the end. But it even took my partner a very long time to crack through all 12 seasons of "The Big Bang Theory," which meant there...

SAG-AFTRA Weighs in on AI Firestorm: ‘To Be Clear, “Tilly Norwood” Is Not an Actor’
Image
SAG-AFTRA has released a statement September 30 roundly condemning artificial intelligence talent studio Xicoia’s shopping of an AI actor named Tilly Norwood to the industry.

News broke from Deadline at the Zurich Summit on September 27 that Hollywood talent agents have been quietly circling Norwood for representation. For the past five months, Xicoia, launched by Dutch technologist Emily Van der Velden as part of her company Particle 6 Productions, has been soft-launching Norwood on Instagram.

The studio has been posting headshots, candids, and even motion graphics of the AI performer, who takes the form of a dewy teenage girl who is supposed to live in London. Just in the past week, Xicoia has posted hypothetical, AI-generated screenshots of Norwood in a kind of digital portfolio showing the different film projects she could appear in: There’s one of her in a dimly-lit thriller scenario, one of her on a subway (do AI characters need public transportation?...
