For the second year in a row, the University Archives kicked off the start of the fall semester with a hands-on activity celebrating student creativity and the vintage banners held in the collection. On Sept. 9, “Hands-On: Pizza & Pennant Making” invited more than 150 attendees into Hunt Library for an afternoon filled with crafting, connection, and pizza.

Pittsburgh architect Frederick G. Scheibler Jr. drew inspiration from the natural world, incorporating flowers, birds, and even mushrooms into buildings that stood apart from the more conventional architecture of the early 20th century. Now, more than a century later, the extensive collection documenting his work at CMU is becoming easier for researchers and curious Pittsburghers alike to discover.

The Archives recently took over stewardship of the Wymetal collection, which features opera scores that belonged to a father and son duo along with set/costume designs by a few artists. Folks at the School of Music (specifically Ryan Prendergast) have become interested recently.

On Friday, August 21, new and returning students and other CMU community members gathered in various locations throughout Hunt and Sorrells libraries to participate in orientation information sessions.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly common in classrooms and workplaces, students are facing new questions about when and how to use it responsibly. While many instructors are still determining how AI fits into their courses, students are looking for practical guidance that goes beyond simple rules or restrictions.
