Celebrate #ItalianAmericanHeritageMonth by recognizing Dr Monica Bertagnolli, a surgical oncologist, researcher, and granddaughter of Italian immigrants. In 2022, her diagnosis with early-stage breast cancer gave her a new perspective, deepening her understanding and strengthening her commitment to saving lives. She has served as Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and, most recently, as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At NCI, she played a key role in the Cancer Moonshot℠ Initiative, which aims to accelerate cancer research and move us closer to a cure. Her many contributions to healthcare demonstrate the power of perseverance, passion, and purpose.
