This month, our annual F2F meeting took place in Rome, Italy from 15-17 September. We were pleased to be hosted by our friends at #mEDRA at the library of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche / National Research Council of Italy, on Piazzale Aldo Moro in Rome. DOI RA members from continents around the world were in attendance (and some online!) to both honor our dearly departed leader Dr. Jonathan Clark - and to carry on in his indomitable spirit, planning for a bright future and dynamic growth for the Foundation in these changing times. #DOIFoundation #PIDs #persistentidentifiers #CNRI #objectIDresolution #DONAFoundation #HandleSystem

It is with great sadness that we share that Jonathan Clark died suddenly on August 11, 2026. Jonathan had been the Managing Agent of the DOI Foundation since 2015. Over those years, he guided our organisation with a steady hand and was a generous colleague to many across our community. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the many individuals and organizations he worked alongside. We will share a fuller tribute to Jonathan soon. The DOI system and services continue to operate normally under the direction of the DOI Foundation Board.
It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news that my husband, Jonathan, has died last Tuesday. Jonathan touched so many lives through his work, his friendships, his generosity and his endless curiosity about people and the world around him. I know how much the many communities he was part of meant to him, and how deeply he valued the friendships and connections he made along the way. For those of us who loved him, the loss is impossible to put into words. I also know that many people here will feel his absence deeply. Thank you to everyone who was part of Jonathan’s life, who worked alongside him, laughed with him, challenged him, supported him and cared about him. Those connections meant more to him than you may ever have known. He will be loved, remembered and missed beyond measure. Sylwia

I blinked and Crossref hit 2 billion matched citation links! I know, "billion" is one of those numbers so big it stops meaning anything. So let me put it this way: this is 2,000,000,000 times some researchers pointed to other research and said: "I came from this, a bit." Tiny acts of acknowledgement, building on each other - papers to papers, data to papers, papers to code. The whole messy, beautiful graph of how knowledge actually travels. That's provenance and infrastructure at scale - and it's all open and yours to use. The blog's worth a read - Kora Korzec, Dominika Tkaczyk, and Jason Portenoy explain it better than I just did! https://lnkd.in/eWjymrEs

Earlier this year, the DOI Foundation won the first inaugural #Rosenblum award from the National Information Standards Organization. If you were ever curious as to what the DOI standard is all about and where it came from (or even if you already knew) this new video, kicked off by TCP/IP co-inventor Robert Kahn (visionary behind The Handle System) - is a great place to start. https://lnkd.in/eMm6Mc2J
