2024 AWS Innovation Partner of the Year. Strapping jetpacks to funded startups and Fortune 500s since 2004.
About us
Loka is a Silicon Valley software consultancy with global impact, bringing innovations to market faster since 2004. We connect clients in high-precision industries like Healthcare, Life Sciences, Education and Logistics to the tech that empowers their most effective work. We believe what you develop matters and bet you do too. In 2024 AWS named Loka Innovation Partner of the Year—the same year in which we achieved AWS Premier Tier and were named part of AWS’s inaugural Generative AI Competency class. In the 18 months prior we identified more than 200 GenAI use cases for clients ranging from Cameo to Blue Cross Blue Shield. After two decades based in the Valley, Loka operates at the bleeding edge of AI, ML, DevOps, Data and Design—and is being recognized by the most authoritative sources in the tech world. Whether building chatbots trained on proprietary data, developing apps to hyper-specific brand requirements or helping biotech companies accelerate novel drugs to eradicate cancer, our full-cycle team of engineers, developers and designers find the solutions that fit our clients’ unique needs and steer them away from the ones that don’t. We work around the clock (literally—we count employees in 18 different countries across seven time zones) but take every other Friday off to recharge. Our Explore and Relo programs encourage Lokals to live and work in rising tech hubs around the world, igniting their curiosity and imbuing their output with global perspective. We are small but mighty, fully remote but fully engaged and always Monday ready. If you’re a founder or leader, we can help you grow. And if you’re a talented engineer seeking an unconventional but high-achieving workplace, we’d love to work with you.

🥁🥁 New York may usually grab the headlines when it comes to AWS Summits, but in LA this week, the conversations had a new kind of intensity. What stood out to us wasn’t just the scale of the event, it was the urgency of the questions being asked: 1/ Customers are leaning into agentic AI—not as a concept, but as a capability they want live in production. Few examples exist today, but Loka was able to share stories of customers already running agents in regulated workflows, cutting manual overhead and boosting speed to insight. 2/ Enterprises are asking how to innovate under regulatory pressure without grinding to a halt. Instead of more red tape, they need governance frameworks that flex with existing SOPs. Loka is building exactly that with enterprise HCLS clients—so teams can scale GenAI confidently and stay audit-ready. 3/ Business teams are trying to make sense of GenAI without clear tools, guidance, or guardrails. Many are experimenting ad hoc with mixed results. Loka is helping companies roll out centralized platforms and playbooks, turning scattered pilots into coordinated, measurable productivity gains. We heard excitement, but also friction. And what struck us was this: no one is asking whether GenAI belongs in their business anymore. The conversation has shifted to how fast it can scale—and who can help make it real. Meanwhile, Loka and AWS teams are sprinting into year-end. Conversations are flowing, projects are launching, and the energy around LA felt like something big is taking shape 🚀 Big thanks to Kelsey Markey, Jon Zerden, Vijay Mandalam and Ken Takemura and AWS friends Danielle McCray, Nelson Lee and Scott Schreckengaust. Plus Loka’s own Emily Kruger, Jonathan Douglas, Sushmitha Regulapati, Matt Kuhlman, Regina Goodman, Shavan Patel and Darrell Draper. Amazon Web Services (AWS) #HCLS #GenAI

When the Shai-Hulud supply chain attack hit on Monday, it wasn’t automated tools that caught the data-stealing malware in action. It was Loka's Senior Engineer Daniel Pereira who spotted the issue. Daniel’s alarm bells didn’t elicit an immediate response, but he kept at it until #github, #npm and the digital security community were fully alerted and moved to act. Spurred by a shout-out from Aikido Security (yesterday’s podcast is worth a listen: https://lnkd.in/dW7irEyZ), developers everywhere are now praising Daniel’s find, and for good reason. Supply chain attacks at this scale (187 npm packages) can ripple across the entire open-source ecosystem. Read all about it at the Wiz blog: https://lnkd.in/d7bNd3km Wins like this remind us why we put people and expertise at the center of everything Loka builds. Tools are important, but diligence, curiosity and context matter most today and tomorrow. 👏 Huge congratulations to Daniel for setting the bar high and making the community safer. 👉 To protect your data from the Shai-Hulud npm supply chain attack: 1. Check if you’ve installed any of the 187 compromised npm packages (full list in the Wiz blog: https://lnkd.in/d7bNd3km). 2. Immediately uninstall or update affected packages to their safe versions. 3. Rotate any credentials or secrets that may have been exposed during installs. #CyberSecurity #OpenSource #SupplyChain #EngineeringExcellence

▶️ Some GenAI projects stall, others soar... and the difference usually comes down to how teams align, prepare their data and scale. Loka is excited to team up with the AWS HCLS team in Palo Alto and share what we’ve seen in the field over the last six months. We’ll bring real R&D use cases with BioFMs and Agentic workflows, common traps to avoid and the strategies that actually get our healthcare and life science customers to production. Life Sciences companies like Latent Labs require hefty compute resources, and AWS's suite of solutions is often their best bet. Loka recently helped Latent Labs assess their needs and complete the complex process of migrating to and modernizing on AWS to better support their AI-driven R&D. We can do the same for you. Amazon Web Services (AWS) #GenAI #HCLS
⭐ AWS Founder Spotlight: Latent Labs Latent Labs engaged with Amazon Web Services (AWS) through the AWS Generative AI Accelerator Program, accessing support, connections to the AWS network, go-to-market strategies, and solutions includingAmazon SageMaker HyperPod. 👥 This has enabled the company to train and build proprietary models and efficiently and reliably scale compute and inference resources. In doing so, it’s “breaking conventions of the past” with a #generativeAI powered approach to protein design that “sidesteps and augments lab experiments.” 🤖 Learn more here. 📺 https://go.aws/4228iNw

🫶 It’s been three years since Loka adopted 5/4 Fridays as official policy. In that time the data we’ve collected on our hybrid 4-day workweek—and the accolades we’ve collected as a company, including AWS Innovation Partner of the Year 2024—have led us to full commitment, even evangelism, about taking every other Friday off. Our people have called 5/4s “literally life changing,” and today they’re one of Loka’s signature benefits. Find out what we’ve learned, how we’ve improved and why we have no intention on going back in the story below. https://lnkd.in/gn44kWPc #LifeatLoka #4dayworkweek #WorkplaceCultureInnovation
