Node.js 26.4.0 is out with a new `node:vfs` built-in module (behind `--experimental-vfs` flag). It also adds support for package maps, and many bug fixes, including a fix for a regression shipped with last week security release. Full changelog and download links: https://lnkd.in/gtTvwceS

📢 CFP Extended to June 30th — NodeConf EU 2026 NodeConf EU is back in Bologna on September 29-30, and we've extended the Call for Papers deadline to June 30th to make sure everyone who has a talk to give gets a chance to submit. This is a conference for people who build with Node.js every day: runtime maintainers, platform engineers, tooling authors, production operators, and anyone pushing the JavaScript runtime forward. The program is focused, the hallway track is serious, and Bologna in late September is a genuinely great place to spend a few days. We're particularly looking for: • Runtime internals and V8 deep dives • Production architecture and observability stories • Tooling, CLI, and developer experience • Edge and worker runtime experience • Anything that made Node.js work better for your team And if you've never spoken before, we'd love to hear from you. NodeConf EU has always benefited from fresh perspectives, and we're actively seeking new voices this year. Submit your proposal at https://nodeconf.eu. Deadline June 30th. See you in Bologna.

Still running an outdated version of Node.js, but not sure where to start? NodeSource (OpenJS ESP Partner), offers a free ✨ AI-powered assessment to help you understand exactly what it will take to upgrade. Run one command. Get a clear picture of your security exposure, dependency conflicts, broken native addons, and deprecated APIs — before you touch a single line of code. Your code never leaves your machine. The tool scans locally and generates a report you can share with your team or upload for a deeper AI analysis. Upgrading off end-of-life Node.js is one of the most impactful things you can do for your application's security posture. This tool makes it easier to know what you're getting into. Despite the obvious downsides of running end-of-life releases, in practice many organizations face real constraints that prevent immediate upgrades — legacy codebases, compliance requirements, or complex dependency chains. Through the OpenJS Foundation Ecosystem Sustainability Program, Node.js is supported by HeroDevs and NodeSource to provide commercial services for security fixes. HeroDevs provides Never-Ending Support (NES) for Node.js versions past their official maintenance phase — including security patches, compliance assistance, and technical support to help bridge the gap while you plan your upgrade strategy. Commercial support for EOL releases should be viewed as a temporary solution. The goal should always be to upgrade to actively maintained versions. → Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ezE66r2X
