About us
Established in 1978, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the largest municipal housing preservation and development agency in the nation. The agency’s mission is to promote the quality and affordability of the city’s housing and the strength and diversity of its many neighborhoods. We do that by preserving affordable housing and protecting tenants, developing new affordable housing, enforcing the Housing Maintenance Code, and engaging neighborhoods in planning. Last night, Acting Commissioner of HPD Ahmed Tigani and Commissioner of NYC Department of Small Business Services Dynishal Gross kicked-off HPD’s 9th Annual M/WBE Matchmaking Event. This annual event empowers Minority and Women-Owned Businesses by opening doors to valuable contracting opportunities and creating diversity within the industry. It plays a vital role in our mission to foster a more inclusive, vibrant, and equitable housing sector. This event gives M/WBEs an incredible opportunity to participate in HPD’s development projects. We have completed 198 projects and partnered with over 700 M/WBEs, delivering more than $2.2 billion in M/WBE spending. Through the work we’ve done in Fiscal Year 2024 and Fiscal Year 2025, HPD will deliver nearly 20,000 affordable homes through the Build Up Program. More than just a networking event, it offers one-on-one meetings, dynamic roundtable discussions, and targeted breakout sessions which spark meaningful partnerships that lead to long-term growth and success. Check out HPD’s website to learn more about our future events and commitment to diversity in housing 🏠!

📢 HPD and the NYC Department of Buildings are proud to launch the Opening Doors Building Accessibility Innovation Challenge. We are especially interested in submissions that address vertical accessibility in stairwells of existing apartment buildings, where residents must climb stairs just to reach their homes. These challenges remain a major barrier for New Yorkers with mobility disabilities. This design competition reflects a key commitment in the Where We Live NYC 2025 Draft Plan: identifying practical solutions to make our city’s existing housing stock more accessible and inclusive. 🗓 Submissions open on September 22. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ehhXv4bM #OpeningDoorsNYC #Accessibility #InclusiveDesign #WhereWeLiveNYC
