Better policies for better lives

About us

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation that works to build better policies for better lives. We draw on more than 60 years of experience and insights to shape policies that foster prosperity and opportunity, underpinned by equality and well-being. We work closely with policy makers, stakeholders and citizens to establish evidence-based international standards and to find solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges. From improving economic performance and strengthening policies to fight climate change to bolstering education and fighting international tax evasion, the OECD is a unique forum and knowledge hub for data, analysis and best practices in public policy. Our core aim is to set international standards and support their implementation – and help countries forge a path towards stronger, fairer and cleaner societies.

France has demonstrated resilience amid recent global shocks, but challenges remain to secure stronger and more sustainable growth. Public finances are under pressure: the public debt ratio has nearly doubled in 25 years and borrowing costs are among the highest in the euro area. Ensuring fiscal sustainability is a top priority. Necessary reforms include: ➡️ Improve public spending efficiency ➡️ Resume the implementation of the 2023 pension reform ➡️ Make taxation fairer and more job-friendly Yesterday, #OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty for France, Roland Lescure, launched the Economic Survey of France. The latest statistics from OECD - OCDE show that government support for business R&D is approaching record highs as R&D tax incentives expand across OECD countries. Tax incentives now provide 60% of government support for business R&D across the OECD, more than double their 28% share in 2004, according to the newly updated OECD R&D Tax Incentives Database. R&D tax relief reached 0.16% of GDP in 2024, up from 0.05% in 2004, while direct funding for business R&D remained at 0.10%.  The OECD R&D Tax Incentives Database covers 56 countries including several major Asian economies for the first time. It captures the fiscal cost of these incentives; combined with estimates of direct government funding, they provide a more comprehensive measure of total government support for business R&D, excluding harder-to-quantify loans and other indirect forms of support. • Official development assistance (ODA) for health could decline by up to 46% in 2026. A new #OECD policy brief projects that health will face the deepest cuts among major development sectors, falling below pre-pandemic levels. ➡️ Population and reproductive health could see a decline of up to 54.1% ➡️ ODA for malaria control could fall by up to 59.6% ➡️ ODA for tuberculosis control could fall by up to 57.2% ➡️ ODA for other infectious-disease control could fall by up to 40.4% Health bears the deepest projected sectoral cuts, but it is not the only area affected. Humanitarian aid and support to government and civil society are also projected to decline significantly, by 40.3% and 39.8% respectively between 2024 and 2026. These reductions could affect funding for pandemic preparedness, prevention and response. OECD estimates suggest that ODA accounts for around 80% of financing for these activities in low-income countries, where the greatest risks often occur. The implications are particularly significant in countries facing disease outbreaks. The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda are currently responding to Ebola outbreaks, while health ODA to both countries is projected to decline significantly.
