Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting Sapphire Ventures’ Enterprise Technology Executives Dinner in San Francisco. Rami Branitzky and I brought together an incredible group of CIOs, CTOs, and technology leaders from companies like SAP, Mercedes-Benz USA, ADT, J.P. Morgan, Freshfields, and C3 AI, among others. Our goal was simple: to create space for peer-to-peer conversation about where AI is actually driving value in the enterprise. The discussion centered around the rise of agentic AI systems, moving from copilots to autonomous agents capable of taking contextual action across complex enterprise environments. A few of the recurring themes: ➡️ The agentic shift |  Enterprises are starting to operationalize AI agents for real business outcomes, from IT automation and risk management to customer engagement and logistics optimization. ➡️ Architecture and orchestration | Teams are exploring how to balance centralized vs. domain-specific agent architectures, and how to integrate agents safely into production workflows. ➡️ Governance and security | As AI gains system-level access, fine-grained controls, auditability, and identity management are becoming top-of-mind for CIOs and CISOs. ➡️ From pilot to production | Many leaders shared lessons on moving beyond experimentation, emphasizing culture, data readiness, and change management as key enablers. ➡️ Human + machine collaboration | The future of enterprise AI isn’t fully autonomous; it’s about building systems where humans and AI can reason, decide, and execute together. Huge thank you to everyone who joined and to our Sapphire portfolio leaders from Glean and Hightouch for sharing their firsthand perspectives on deploying AI at scale. If you’re a CIO, CTO, or tech executive interested in connecting with our growing enterprise community or joining for a future dinner, feel free to reach out! • AI is part of nearly every startup technology out there these days. For CIOs, evaluating which is legitimate and useful is crucial.  At our 4th Annual Hypergrowth Engineering Summit earlier this year, Mike Hamilton, CIO of Cloudflare shared what he values most when assessing new technologies: 🔹Continuous adoption as the real measure of success—watching whether people keep using an AI tool over time or turn it off after a few weeks is the real insight. 🔹 Trust and partnership with early-stage innovators, with transparency and a willingness to share what they’re learning on the bleeding edge. 🔹 Above all, substance over hype, AI that truly learns and acts autonomously, not another chatbot with a new label. Healthcare may be the hardest vertical for AI. And right now, it's entering its make-or-break phase. At HLTH USA this week, I joined Kanyi Maqubela (Kindred Ventures) and John Beadle (Aegis Ventures) to unpack how AI is reshaping healthcare –from AI-native workflows to when we might actually see AI doctors. Here’s where AI is already showing up in the wild: - Reinventing the provider experience: Cutting clerical work and putting real-time intelligence at clinicians’ fingertips. (Abridge, OpenEvidence, Tandem, Verse Medical) - Revenue cycle management (RCM): Roughly five cents of every healthcare dollar goes to RCM. Multi-modal models are now embedding AI across the workflow. (Latent, Mandolin, Tennr, Charta Health, Collectly) - Voice AI transforming the front office: With 300k+ call center reps in healthcare, voice AI is becoming the dominant patient engagement channel. (EliseAI, Sword Health, Hippocratic AI, Assort Health) These aren’t prototypes. They’re active deployments transforming care delivery today. The energy at HLTH reflected that shift. Founders, clinicians, researchers, and investors shared conviction that technology can finally make healthcare smarter, faster, and (ironically) more human. But optimism doesn't replace proof. Valuations are climbing fast, and the next leg of this cycle will reward those who can turn progress into performance...and performance into trust. Thanks to Alex Maiersperger for steering such a sharp discussion, and to William Dixon for capturing the moment. 📸

  • ICYMI: Our Healthcare AI Market Map highlighting the innovators we believe are shaping the next generation of healthcare is now out. Few industries face higher stakes than healthcare, making AI’s emerging impact all the more critical. Provider shortages, skyrocketing admin costs, and fragmented data have created expensive, inefficient and frustrating experiences for patients and clinicians alike. Here are 3 major healthcare sectors where AI is creating meaningful change and that we’re most excited about: 1. Activating healthcare data at scale 📊 Healthcare generates enormous amounts of unstructured data that traditionally sat locked in silos. AI is now transforming this data into real-time insights, driving faster workflows, more coordinated care, and better patient outcomes. 2. Administrative Automation 📋 The administrative burden in healthcare has exploded—growing 20x faster than the physician workforce. AI can automate highly repetitive tasks like scheduling, billing, and documentation, reducing costs while giving clinicians more time with patients. 3. The 10x Provider 👩⚕️ With rising patient demand and a worsening clinician shortage, AI is augmenting providers and expanding system capacity. Agentic AI is stepping in to handle routine clerical and patient engagement functions, helping close the gap between supply and demand. At Sapphire, we see a growing wave of startups at the forefront of this transformation. Our Healthcare AI Market Map highlights the innovators that we believe are shaping what comes next. 🔗 Read the full blog by Cathy Gao, Aditya Reddy, Misty L. and Callum Kuo, and explore the map here: https://lnkd.in/gH7nZ2fW

There’s something ✨ magical ✨ about bringing people back together who’ve built alongside each other — the laughter, the memories, the shared sense of purpose that never quite fades. Last week’s Sapphire Ventures' #RooftopReunion felt like a true homecoming. From Auth0 to Docusign, Looker to MuleSoft, Twilio Segment and beyond, alumni from across our portfolio gathered to reconnect and celebrate the impact this community continues to make. When we dreamed up the #SapphireAlumniNetwork, the idea was simple: to keep our builders, leaders, and teammates connected long after their chapter at a Sapphire-backed company ends. Watching that vision come alive on our SF rooftop — with old friends hugging, laughing, and sharing where the journey has taken them was deeply meaningful. Here’s to the people who make this community extraordinary — and to the next generation of builders who will carry it forward. Endless gratitude to my amazing teammates Nicole Torres, DES, DMCP, Tiffany Chandra, and Rami Branitzky for bringing this homecoming to life — and to our alumni from 6sense, Alteryx, Auth0, Box, DataRobot, Docusign, Fitbit (now part of Google), JFrog, Looker, MuleSoft, Netskope and many more.
