About us
At Volunteers of America, we are more than a nonprofit organization. We are a ministry of service that includes 16,000 paid, professional employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Through our hundreds of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America touches the lives of 2 million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico each year. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services. Approximately 60,000 volunteers throughout the country help our employees deliver these life-changing services

VOA’s plethora of services and programs are here to walk alongside the people we serve. During #SuicidePreventionAwarenessMonth, we shine a light on our School-Based Mental Health services and how Volunteers of America Minnesota and Wisconsin's VOA High School has bettered their student body with in-school therapists. Faced with hardship, Tara turned to a non-traditional schooling option at VOA’s High School. After meeting with her designated in-school therapist, Jackie, Tara has been able to successfully and holistically work towards her degree. Congratulations to Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) on the grand opening of Rendezvous, their newest 52-unit affordable housing community in Montrose, CO! This project will prioritize safety, dignity, and community for its residents, through the partnership of Volunteers of America Colorado, City of Montrose, Colorado, CHFA.com, and U.S. Bank.
Affordable housing is so much more than blueprints 🔵, bricks 🧱, and mortar—it’s about creating quality places where people can thrive. Yesterday, we celebrated the grand opening of our newest affordable housing community, #Rendezvous. Located on the Western slope of Colorado in Montrose, this 52-unit community not only provides safe, modern housing, but also the dignity of connection and community. None of this would have been possible without our dedicated partners who helped bring this vision to life: Volunteers of America Colorado , City of Montrose, Colorado , CHFA.com, and U.S. Bank. #housingdevelopment #communityimpact #seniorliving

The need for quality, affordable housing has never been greater. At VOA, we believe that housing is more than a shelter – it is the foundation for a second chance. We were proud to be at the 2025 Concordia Summit, where our work to help those experiencing housing insecurity took center stage at Bridging the Gap: Public-Private Solutions to America’s Housing Crisis – a panel on affordable housing with Ayesha Khan of Volunteers of America-Greater New York and Rob Bonta of California Department of Justice, moderated by Bloomberg’s Sarah Holder. We are grateful to have contributed our voice to this globally-recognized conversation, underscoring the need for partnerships to create safe, affordable housing in communities across the country. #Concordia25

We are witnesses to hope in action! VOA Illinois continues to inspire so many with the groundbreaking of Hope Manor Village Joliet, a 48-unit housing development providing housing and resources for women recovering from opioid addiction. Thank you to everyone involved in this project that will transform lives. ❤️
#MissionMoment: On Tuesday we celebrated the groundbreaking of Hope Manor Village Joliet, a 48-unit housing development that will provide long-term, supportive housing and wrap-around services to women recovering from opioid addiction, especially those that are parenting or caring for young children. The celebration wouldn't have been possible without the support of so many. A special thank you to everyone that joined us including our board chair Carolyn Pettke, PMP, City of Joliet Mayor Terry D'Arcy, Silver Cross Hospital Michael Mutterer, Senator Rachel F. Ventura, Housing Authority of Joliet Glenda McCullum, and Illinois Housing Development Authority Brenda O'Connell. Thank you for participating in the celebration and being champions of the project. Your support continues to allow us to build and provide housing for those who need it most! In addition, we wouldn't be celebrating this monumental day, if it wasn't for the support of National Equity Fund, Inc., Applegate & Thorne-Thomsen, P.C., WJW Architects, CIBC, and Henry Bros. Co. Thank you for everything you did before and leading up to this day, we are forever grateful for your support! #TheVOAWay

At VOA, we believe that family is central to what we do. ❤️ Deanna was about to step away from work to prepare for a new baby, when her family faced housing insecurity. After being introduced to VOA Illinois' Rapid Rehousing program, Deanna and her partner, Santiyon, were able to secure an apartment, as well as receive furniture and housing supplies to make their house a home. #NationalFamilyDay Read more about Deanna’s love for her family: https://lnkd.in/e5PKwW4v
