SQL Joins vs UNION: Key Differences Explained! When working with databases, JOIN and UNION are two essential tools to combine data but they serve very different purposes. Let’s break it down: 1. What is SQL JOIN? Definition: Combines columns from two or more tables based on a related key. Types of JOINs: ➟ INNER JOIN – Only matching rows from both tables ➟ LEFT JOIN – All rows from the left + matches from the right ➟ RIGHT JOIN – All rows from the right + matches from the left ➟ FULL JOIN – All rows from both tables (with NULLs where no match) 2. What is SQL UNION? Definition: Combines rows from two or more SELECT queries. Types: ➟ UNION – Merges results and removes duplicates ➟ UNION ALL – Merges and keeps duplicates Pro Tip: ● Use JOIN when combining related columns across tables. ● Use UNION when merging similar datasets from different queries. Hello everyone! 👋 Here’s a useful tip for new SQL users: If you encounter the error **"𝗡𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱"** while working in MySQL, don’t worry—it’s a common issue and easy to fix. 🔹 Check if your MySQL server is running. 🔹 Try reconnecting using the reconnect option in MySQL Workbench. 🔹 If the issue persists, follow these steps: 1️⃣ First, go to **Services** on your laptop. 2️⃣ Then, find **MySQL** in the list of services. 3️⃣ Click on it and **start the MySQL service**. 4️⃣ Finally, reopen **MySQL Workbench**. 🔹 Also, verify your connection settings like hostname, port, username, and password.
