About

I’m Katica Roy, an award-winning gender economist, data scientist, and founder and CEO of Pipeline, an award-winning SaaS company advancing intersectional gender equity in the workplace. As a global speaker, media commentator, and a flagship columnist for Equity by Design™ by the Design Observer, I help audiences rethink the economic opportunity of equity — not as charity, but as a growth strategy.

My writing and ideas have been published in the World Economic Forum, Harvard Business Review, Fortune, Fast Company, Forbes, Bloomberg, NBC, Katie Couric Media, Entrepreneur, The Hill, The Advocate, and Morning Consult, among others, reaching more than 2.9 billion impressions. My research has been cited by multiple New York Times bestselling authors and in U.S. congressional proceedings, and I’ve advised policymakers, global leaders, and Fortune 500 executives on closing equity gaps to drive prosperity.

Recognized by TIME and Fast Company for transforming equity into action, I’ve been honored as Colorado Entrepreneur of the Year (2020), LinkedIn Top Voice for Gender Equity (2022), and Stevie Gold Entrepreneur of the Year. Under my leadership, Pipeline launched the first gender equity app on Salesforce’s AppExchange, earning TIME Best Invention and repeated Fast Company Most Innovative Companies recognition for closing the workplace equity gap.

I am also proud to serve on influential councils including Fast Company’s Impact Council, Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum, The Aspen Institute’s Tech Accountability Coalition, and the U.S. SBA’s National Women’s Business Council.

My passion for equity is deeply personal: as the daughter of an immigrant and a refugee, and as a breadwinner mother raising a teenage daughter and son, I believe in building an economy that works for everyone.

Let’s connect if you’re ready to explore the ROI of equity, systemic change, and the bold leadership our future demands.

The Tech Accountability Coalition was created in March 2022 as an outgrowth of the report, from the belief that tech’s systemic inequity can best be course-corrected through systemic action. And that together, we can make equitable and inclusive innovation, driven by a diverse workforce, the industry norm.

The Tech Accountability Coalition was co-created in partnership with tech companies, trusted organizations from underrepresented communities in tech, academic institutions, and think tanks. The Coalition’s underlying remit is to track, measure, and accelerate DEI at an industry level by holding tech companies accountable to their DEI commitments and to build upon collective action. Over time, we will release critical insights to improve transparency and accountability in tech and unify collective goals, providing a model for others to follow.

Children who are free to choose what to read are more likely to read, and the number of books in a home has the same impact on a child’s level of educational attainment as parental education levels.

This report is the fourth from ASTD to cover the growing importance of talent to organizational performance and the skills gap that threatens so many organizations today. The Human Capital Challenge (2003), ASTD’s first whitepaper to address skills shortages, made the connection between knowledge capital and organizational success. In 2006, the initial Bridging the Skills Gap described how skills shortages threaten growth and competition, and recommended roles for individuals, organizations, and government in creating solutions to a growing problem. In 2009, ASTD published a revised edition,
Bridging the Skills Gap: New Factors Compound the Growing Skills Shortage, which examined the impact of job losses during the Great Recession and the influence of Web 2.0 and the Net Generation on workforce skills. The 2012 edition of Bridging the Skills Gap updates the picture with the jobs outlook in today’s recovering economy, looks at the role of training and education, and explains the need for collaboration among all sectors responsible for filling the jobs pipeline.
