AI is the supermassive black hole at the center of the cloud-driven galaxy. It will swallow whatever doesn’t accelerate into its orbit. For anybody whose role is transitioning from “doer of all things” to “team leader,” one book that helped my thinking tremendously: “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.” The underlying dysfunction it described? Absence of trust. At Xperi Inc., we exert a lot of energy into working to build mutual trust between leadership and employees through a series of actions: - Establishing a common understanding around judgment, approach, behavior and diligence — things that demonstrate that regardless of outcome, the process to get there was thoughtfully conceived and implemented. - Creating a culture of psychological safety — such as welcoming dissenting opinions and teaching teams to healthily manage conflict — to ensure employees feel confident to take on greater risks and responsibilities. - Developing alignment around values and purpose by baking them directly into company values statements. - Offering a range of leadership development programs (some of which I’ve actually taught over the years) to get everybody on the same page regarding company strategy and goals, as well as processes for sound decision-making. What better way to start the week than with Andrew Casale’s sharp remarks on TTD’s decision to call all SSPs in its platform “resellers.” Here are "some" Highlights: -TTD reclassified all SSPs as resellers, scoring them lower and steering ad spend toward curated paths and direct deals. -Andrew Casale (Index Exchange CEO) called the blanket label “ignorant,” noting that while some vendors act like resellers, many SSPs have direct publisher relationships and add real value. -TTD says it’s cutting waste. SSPs see it as unfair and power-shifting — another step toward full-stack DSP/SSP consolidation. My unicorn 🦄 takeaways: 🦄 I get TTD’s intent to simplify and help traders optimize supply paths (maybe the effort should be redirect to simplify Kokai) 🦄 I don’t agree that this leads to efficiency. It reduces transparency and unfairly lumps good apples with bad. Why this matters to my fellow programmatic ninjas: 🦄 Traders now have less control. High-value resellers with proprietary supply are treated the same as low-value middlemen. Some interesting moves out of Verizon today: First, they announced their new 6G Innovation Forum (6GIF). Details here: https://lnkd.in/ghCcPEs3 Recall that this is the same thing Verizon did in the very, very early days of 5G. Specifically, Verizon formed the 5G Technology Forum (5GTF) in 2015 with Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung to create specifications for a fixed wireless service. Details here: https://lnkd.in/gW48JAYn Now here's the interesting part: Verizon's new 6GIF has just five partners: Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, Qualcomm and... Meta. Meta is the interesting one here because Verizon specifically mentions wearables and AI, and Meta is a big player in both of those areas. They're going to offer network insights APIs that can "verify expected network service levels at key locations and pathways, helping anticipate and mitigate communication disruptions, ensuring more resilient planning and smoother operations." I believe all this stuff is related. And it's also the kind of thing I'm going to be watching very, very carefully.
