Design considerations of a hollow microneedle-optofluidic biosensing platform incorporating enzyme-linked assays
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering
A hollow metallic microneedle is integrated with microfluidics and photonic components to form a microneedle-optofluidic biosensor suitable for therapeutic drug monitoring in biological fluids, like interstitial fluid, that can be collected in a painless and minimally-invasive manner.

Health impact in action: Improving patient outcomes and bringing healthcare innovations to Australians Last week the Care Economy CRC took part in the National Health and Innovation Precincts Summit, where CEO and Managing Director Carmela Sergi contributed to a panel discussion with VCCC Alliance CEO Grant McArthur AO, Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research CEO Simone Proft and moderator, UNSW Pro Vice-Chancellor Precincts, Prof Zoe Terpening. The discussion explored how precincts can accelerate research translation and deliver measurable community benefit, including: - What we can learn from successful health translation initiatives across Australia - Partnership models that strengthen collaboration between researchers and industry - Measuring and enhancing community benefit from innovation precincts - Navigating barriers between breakthrough research and clinical application - How precinct ecosystems can be optimised to maximise impact for patients and communities Find out more about the Summit here: https://lnkd.in/gzj-tx6D Melbourne Connect Informa Connect La Trobe University RMIT University Monash University University of Melbourne La Trobe Industry

"Australia can continue to pay lip service to critical matters such as productivity, sovereign capability and advanced manufacturing, while underfunding one of the few sectors already delivering all three. Or it can recognise medical research for what it is: a proven engine of economic complexity, resilience and long-term growth." Brilliant article by Jason Kovacic pointing out that the release of more funds from the Medical Research Future Fund is not about seeking special treatment, but about doing what makes economic sense. Our researchers in Australia not only save lives—they drive economic growth and provide vital aid and innovation to our region. https://lnkd.in/gNmaj5VF

And the good news keeps coming for Neurotologix. 🙂 We are pleased to share that Neurotologix has received $950,000 through the WA Future Health Research and Innovation Fund's Major Research and Innovation Application Support (MRIAS) Program. This funding supports Neurotologix's CUREator+ project (funded by MRFF) and will assist in the commercialisation of the ROMI System, a Class IIa medical device designed to support the assessment of patients experiencing dizziness and vertigo. The WA FHRI fund's MRIAS Program is a fantastic initiative that helps Western Australian innovators compete for major national funding opportunities and continue building world-class health technologies in WA. Thank you to the Department of Health (WA Health), Minister Stephen Dawson, the Government of Western Australia, and the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund for their support. We would also like to thank the teams at ANDHealth and Brandon Capital BioCatalyst for delivering the @CUREator+ program and for their support of Australian health technology innovation and Neurotologix's commercialisation journey. Finally, a huge thank you 🙏 to the wonderful Neurotologix team, our clinical collaborators, advisors, and supporters whose commitment and belief in our vision have helped make this milestone possible.

Excited to see our project, “Engineering a Needle-Free Saliva Test for Type 2 #Diabetes”, funded by Diabetes Australia! We are creating a saliva-based, equipment-free glucose biosensor enabled by a unique #plasma-assisted fabrication technology, achieving blood-level sensitivity without needles. What makes this even more exciting is working alongside such an awesome group of CIs: Professor Alexis Hure, Professor shamasunder acharya, Dr. Syamak Farajikhah, Dr Shanika Nanayakkara, and Dr Masoud Zhianmanesh. Our ambition is to create an affordable, pocket-sized alternative to finger-prick testing, particularly for those in regional and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. Grateful to Diabetes Australia for supporting our research!
