I worked with some incredible people and really appreciated my time at Bankrate, but now I'm now looking for my next role! For those of you who don't know me, I'm an award-winning journalist and writer with over six years of experience in business and financial reporting. I've written everything from real estate and economic reporting to local small business highlights and personal finance advice. (Fun fact: I've also written a lot about food and beverage and the LGBTQ community!) In short, I'm really good at breaking down complex topics to a lay audience. I can write everything from 2,000-word data-driven features to pithy social media posts, and I would love to write for your newsroom or organization. But now? Some Gen Xers are at the awkward time of life where they have to both take care of their aging parents and care for their own young children at home. Not only can it be a huge emotional load — it can also be a financial challenge. New from me: My latest piece in my Navigating Now series, which seeks to help Americans tackle some of today’s trickiest financial challenges, is live! This one dives into how many Gen Xers are both caring for their aging parents and taking care of children under the age of 18 at home. Either one of those duties can be a huge financial responsibility, but taking on both at once can feel impossible. What’s worse, many Gen Xers are taking on these responsibilities as more Gen Xers, overall, tend to report financial challenges. According to several different Bankrate studies, many Gen Xers already struggle to build a sufficient emergency fund or save enough to retire. Overall, 84 percent of Gen Xers say they are not completely financially secure, a higher percentage than any other generation, according to Bankrate’s Financial Freedom Survey. If you’re a Gen X caregiver — or you know you’ll be one in the future — it’s so important you begin to prepare for the future now. Danielle Goldstein, a 23-year-old in West Orange, New Jersey, recently told us at Bankrate that she hasn’t been able to find a job over the last year, despite submitting thousands of applications. The overwhelming response from companies has been that she doesn’t have enough experience for entry-level jobs. She, like so many other recent college grads entering the job market, feels “doomed.” Job cuts and layoffs are low, but so is hiring. Many companies, especially in tech and business, are holding back on hiring amid economic uncertainty driven by high interest rates and tariffs. That’s translated to 1) a lot of entry-level roles disappearing from the job market for now and 2) more people going after the same jobs/increased competition. AI might be playing a role too, but it’s still unclear how much. My colleague Lane Gillespie recently wrote about what’s happening in the job market for young workers—and what they can do about it as part of his new “Navigating Now” series for Bankrate. Tori Rubloff reposted thisTori Rubloff reposted thisThere’s a tale of two job markets right now, divided between the employed and the unemployed. Those who have a job don’t have it entirely bad. Job cuts and layoffs are low. But those who have been laid off — or other workers hoping for a change — are experiencing one of the toughest job markets in years. For over a year now, the “hiring” rate has been at 2013 levels. Meanwhile, almost 1 in 4 of unemployed workers (or 24.9%) have been out of a job for 27 weeks or more, levels previously not seen since 2016. Few would say those were good days for the job market. If you want to see just how tough it is to find a job right now, look no further than younger workers and recent college graduates. Young people aged 22-27 are facing an unemployment rate of 7.4%, far beyond the pre-pandemic level of 6.1%, a Federal Reserve Bank of New York analysis finds. About 4.8% of new college graduates are unemployed versus 4% of all workers. Why is it so tough? For starters, companies are facing widespread economic uncertainty, and they’re holding off on hiring until they get more clarity on interest rates and President Trump’s tariff policies. But college graduates and young workers are at a complete disadvantage. Companies might prefer hiring experienced workers and could be pressing the pause on entry-level positions. We're also still in a high-rate world, and the industries many of these graduates are entering — tech, as well as professional and business services — have been struggling for the past several years. AI could also be playing a role, but we don’t know how much yet. We’re sparse on quantitative evidence, so we have to look to recent anecdotes from earnings season, such as Bank of America saying it's using AI in ways that could reduce its hiring needs. Young people are the ones with big career plans, if the labor market doesn't get in their way. According to Bankrate's recent Worker Intentions Survey: - Gen Z: 53% likely to search for a new job, 23% likely to quit - Millennials: 49% likely to search, 17% likely to quit - Gen X: 48% likely to search, 16% likely to quit - Baby Boomers: 27% likely to search, 12% likely to quit When job markets like this affect young people, the consequences can be lasting. Your first job and salary can often set the stage for the rest of your career. One thing I’ve been thinking about: As AI continues to grow, could the old way of getting a job make a comeback? Companies are using AI to evaluate talent and workers are using AI to apply for jobs. At a certain point, the "human" component may come back in — making face-to-face, personal connections all the more valuable. What do you think? Try creating your own goals that work for you. If you find that there’s no room to cut money in your budget. But while that's bad enough, it's far from the only way women struggle financially more than men. 🤷♀️ New from me: Only a quarter of women say they're likely to be able to achieve their version of the American dream in today's U.S. economy, compared to 33% of men, according to a Bankrate survey. 🌎 There's a lot of factors that play into that. Unfortunately, women tend to feel worse about the economy than men do, and more women than men say that they're having difficulty paying for their usual household expenses. To be clear, women are making great strides in pay equality, financial literacy and financial independence from men. But, sadly, there's still a lot of work to be done. If you're feeling like the American dream is out of reach, let me tell you — it's not! Lately, I’ve been directing more of my energy toward things that bring joy in my life, from attending concerts to celebrating my husband’s 34th on a boat to playing weekend pickleball at my local park. Some of these things cost me money, some didn’t. While talking with friends about my September plans a few weeks ago, a big question came up: How do we make space for joy in our budgets while still hitting our financial goals, especially when life feels so expensive? We tend to overcomplicate the answer, but what I’ve found is effective for me is including joy in my budget. Over time, I’ve learned you can pay down debt, grow savings and make progress on big financial goals while still enjoying your life. The balance looks different for everyone, but the common denominator to achieving that balance is having a realistic budget you can stick to and revisiting it often. What’s the best way to get started? This is what I do: 1. List the activities that make me happy (and their costs) 2. Mix in activities at different price points so I can flex with my budget 3. In just a year I: 🏆 Grew a content marketing team that had never done SEO into a powerhouse team knocking out 100+ deliverables a month that drive results 💻 Helped consolidate and migrate 3 brands and websites into one go-to-market brand, Network Solutions ✈️ Traveled to Cebu to meet and upskill some awesome people 🤖Dove head first into AI innovation and GEO/AIO 🚀 Led a full fledged SEO strategy with no 'limits' - no contracts or SOWs to lessen the impact I could drive. Innovation mode activated 🧠Attended my first SEO conference 🖊️ Wrote my first Search Engine Land article (a career milestone for me) ☮️ Have been surrounded by brilliant people who believe in the value (and future) of search This is all just the start! I'm truly energized by the work I get to do and the challenges that come up. I'm grateful for this career and everything that's yet to come. 🥂 Cheers to the next 365 days!

Pro: The bog witch of Asana can’t touch me now. Con: I have been laid off and do not have a job. I’m looking for new FTE opportunities in remote editorial positions — content manager, senior editor, web producer, newsletter editor, etc. Please keep me in mind if you come across cool openings, or if your company is hiring for similar positions. As a bonus, potential employers are really getting three for the price of one — these goofs have a 95% Zoom meeting attendance record, and their passion for online media is obvious. #OpenToWork

For the Claude app: Claude can now use code to analyze data, create files, and visualize insights in the files and formats you use. Watch as Claude creates polished docs, presentations, and spreadsheets—ready to download and edit. Now available to all paid plans in preview. On the Claude API: we've added two new capabilities to build agents that handle long-running tasks without frequently hitting context limits. Context editing automatically clears stale context and the memory tool means you can store and consult information outside the context window. We're also releasing a temporary research preview called "Imagine with Claude." In this experiment, Claude generates software on the fly. No functionality is predetermined; no code is prewritten. Available to Max users for 5 days. Claude Sonnet 4.5 is available everywhere today—on the Claude Developer Platform, natively and in Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud's Vertex AI. As part of my undergraduate career at the University of Florida, I volunteered and co-taught at numerous schools in Alachua County. Working with students from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade, as well as ESOL to general education classrooms, was such a rewarding and invaluable experience.
I have worked at J.J. Finley Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary, Littlewood Elementary, Bronson Elementary (in Levy County) and Kids Count…As part of my undergraduate career at the University of Florida, I volunteered and co-taught at numerous schools in Alachua County.
