- [Narrator] If I'm operating an application at Amazon, I'm wanting it to execute as best it can, hence operational excellence. But I'm faced with a reality that everything continues to change, the application over time, what the customer needs, how I'm operating my business. So I have to ensure that I design my overall operations to support these changes over time. So operational excellence, how do I achieve this, is really through three main parts. Number one, preparing, then operating, and then learning, evolving over time as I look at the feedback for how the application is operating. So let's take a look at preparing to actually start running my application. Well, my application is a workload and I will have some expected behaviors, but those expected behaviors will change over time. The application may get more popular. Maybe the application doesn't become popular, maybe it's too large an operation, it has to be scaled back down. So I have to design for operating at production…
