- After identifying our key business needs and why they matter, it's time to transform these challenges into actionable goals. Now, these goals or objectives need to be specific, measurable, attainable, result-oriented, and time-bound, meaning they should be SMART. A SMART goal converts the problem we have identified into clear, measurable targets that define what success looks like. It creates clarity for everyone involved about exactly what we aim to achieve and how we will track our progress. For example, against our first business need of 30% higher costs. I can bet every business would like to reduce costs to the same level as last year. However, we must ask ourselves that if such an ambition is actually achievable.
