Amazon unveiled a revamped Echo lineup in New York, highlighting its new AI-powered Alexa+ system. Hardware chief Panos Panay introduced devices like the Echo Dot Max, priced at $99.99, and the Echo Studio, priced at $219.99. The redesigned series emphasizes Amazon’s focus on AI-enabled smart speakers as key home devices. Some experiences feel like déjà vu from the future. A couple of decades ago, when I first watched the movie Minority Report, I was mesmerized by the idea of using gestures to interact with computers. Back then, it felt like pure science fiction. Fast forward to 2010, when I stumbled on Pranav Mistry’s TED Talk — gestures in computing no longer looked like fiction, but something just around the corner. And last week, I finally lived that moment myself when I tried the Apple Vision Pro. A short 30-minute demo, but one that left me with 3 big takeaways: 1️⃣ Vision correction through software They configured my eyeglass prescription directly into the device. I could use it without my specs — comfortably. This was mind-blowing. Could there be a future where spectacles themselves are software-defined? 2️⃣ Eye-tracking precision Navigating UI elements with just my eyes felt intuitive (after I realized how restless my eyes really are!). Once I got used to it, the accuracy was flawless. It’s easy to imagine how this level of precision could transform fields like surgery or design. 3️⃣ The endowment effect, live in action I’d just been reading about this concept in the book “Diary of a CEO” — how people value things more once they feel ownership. Apple nailed this. They let me upload a few personal photos and videos. Watching my daughter’s first steps in spatial video was… magical. I smiled, replayed it twice, and didn’t want to let go. The best part? The salesperson couldn’t even see those videos on their connected screen — privacy by design. Sure, the price today is way too high for me to consider it. But the wow factor was undeniable — equal parts Black Mirror and pure wonder. If you’re anywhere near an Apple Store, I’d say: don’t miss the chance. It’s not just a demo. It’s a window into the times to come — and they’re going to be amazing.

The future is here. It just isn’t evenly distributed. Two launches. Two realities. On one hand, Apple’s fall event delivered safe, incremental updates. Polished as ever, but no breakthrough AI in sight. The kind of year Steve would likely be embarrassed by. On the other hand, on the same day, Arnav Kapur at alterego shows a “near-telepathic” interface that makes AI feel like an extension of the human mind. That split screen says more than any keynote. It’s a reminder that disruption rarely lands evenly. It shows up at the edges first, then becomes obvious all at once. What a time to be alive 🚀

Senko is now 3x faster on Mac thanks to CoreML. It now processes 1 hour of audio in ~8 seconds on an M3 MacBook, making it by far the the fastest open-src speaker diarization pipeline on Mac, all while maintaining good accuracy. This latest speed achievement is thanks to getting the CAM++ speaker embedding model to run on the ANE (Apple Neural Engine) through CoreML, as well as switching out the VAD (voice activity detection) model to be a CoreML converted version of the excellent Pyannote segmentation-3.0 model.
