After two decades defending some of the world's most critical platforms - from PayPal to Qualtrics to government networks - against daily probes, I've learned trust is not a feature, it's foundational. When systems hold, nobody notices. When they break, nothing else matters. I've spent my career defending people and their data from persistent threats. Today, I'm excited to share that I've joined Meta as its next Chief Information Security Officer, transitioning into the role after Guy Rosen departs later this year. Here's the thesis I'm bringing with me to Meta: Meta works at the frontier of technology. It's where the future is being built and where the stakes are highest. Few organizations carry the responsibility Meta does. Billions of people trust its platforms for how they connect, communicate, and, increasingly, use AI in their daily lives. Protecting that trust, the security of the systems, the integrity of the platform, and the safety of the people on it, is one of the most consequential jobs in our industry. And it is getting harder, because we are wiring AI into the world’s load-bearing systems and we must secure them just as fast. The capability curve is nearly vertical. The trust curve is not. Closing that gap, building security and trust into these systems from the start rather than bolting it on after, and being able to prove they’re worthy of the trust we place in them, is one of the defining challenges of this era. This is primarily an engineering challenge - one that has to be solved at the same frontier and the same scale as AI. That is why I'm joining Meta. Building AI at the frontier means building the trust infrastructure for it at the same frontier, with the same seriousness, at a scale that touches billions of people. There are few places in the world where that problem is bigger, harder, or more consequential. The role brings together everything I've spent my career on: security, systems, and the human work of earning confidence. I don’t step into this lightly, or alone. Guy Rosen built something rare here: a security organization with real depth, real craft, and a culture that takes this work as seriously as it deserves. I have enormous respect for what he and this team have built, and I’m humbled to carry it forward. The people I’ve met are exactly the kind you want beside you on the hardest problems. The thing I’m most excited about is them. I’m looking forward to spending the next few months working closely with Guy and the team to ramp up in my new role. More soon. For now: grateful, energized, and ready to earn my place.
Congratulations, Assaf! 🎉 What an outstanding next chapter. Meta is fortunate to have you stepping in as its next Chief Information Security Officer. Your decades of experience defending critical platforms at PayPal, Qualtrics, and beyond make you an exceptional choice for this role—especially at a time when securing AI at planetary scale is one of the defining challenges in our industry. Your words about building trust into the systems from the start, rather than bolting it on afterward, really resonate. Wishing you a smooth transition with Guy and the team, and every success as you take the helm. Looking forward to seeing the impact you’ll make. Congratulations on your new role as CISO at Meta, Assaf! It’s inspiring to see someone we worked with at PayPal step into a position with such enormous responsibility, protecting the data and trust of billions of people around the world. Meta could not have chosen a better leader to keep all of our information safe, and I’m excited to see the impact you’ll have on security and resilience at this scale.
BIG WOW 🫅, Now I feel safe using Facebook 👏
Also Assaf's inbox right now: "Hi Assaf, I saw your work at <Meta> and thought we should connect" "Hi Assaf, I came across your profile while connecting with security leaders and wanted to connect" "Hi Assaf, with little to no effort I wanted to try and trick you into taking a meeting with me" ...and uniquely: "Hey I got locked out of my Facebook account, can you help??" 😁
Amazing. As a CISO you demand excellence, display technical depth, and analyze everything deeply, you’re an excellent fit for this role! Congrats 🚀
Amazing, congrats!
Best of luck on this new adventure!
Congrats Assaf. Security is equivalent to reliabilty. Silent and unseen unless it fails!
Congratulations on an incredible next chapter. Building trust at AI scale will require more than securing systems, it will require proving that the identities, data, and autonomous actions behind them remain continuously trustworthy. Wishing you great success in the role.
