Today we’re launching Ask DoorDash — a new conversational way to search the app in your own words through chat, voice, a recipe link or photo. Born out of our AI research lab, Ask DoorDash can build you a grocery cart ~5x faster than doing it manually. It takes a single prompt to complete your cart in under 2 minutes. And it makes it easy for you to find the right reservation. In early testing, nearly half of all restaurant orders made with Ask DoorDash were from a place the customer had never ordered from before, and grocery baskets built with Ask DoorDash were over 35% larger than those without. Ask DoorDash is a win for merchants too. For a restaurant, this can boost your visibility with the improved, personalized discovery experience. For a grocer, this can greatly increase your basket sizes, and customers don’t need to build a grocery cart item by item. The infrastructure behind Ask DoorDash will be made available to any merchant who wants to bring this experience to their own customers. We've spent over a decade building an app that puts everything in your city at your fingertips. The average person has 800k+ menu items and grocery products available to them on DoorDash, but more options shouldn’t mean more work to find what you want. Now the app works harder so you don’t have to: https://lnkd.in/gEMmZJE7
Andy Fang the 35% larger grocery basket stat is the one merchants will screenshot and send to their leadership teams. discovery that happens inside the cart is a completely different conversion lever than anything in a loyalty program.
Hmm…I wonder what the pay ratio is for DorkDash executives to DorkDash drivers?

Amazing!
So freaking cool!
Incredible rollout, Andy. Ask DoorDash driving 35% larger grocery baskets and faster multi-merchant discovery is a massive win for the consumer experience. As frontend AI accelerates the creation of these denser, more complex batched orders, the computational challenge shifts directly to backend dispatch. Fulfilling these heavier, multi-variable routes forces traditional routing heuristics and brute-force optimization into exponential CPU loads, heavily inflating the infrastructure tax. I’ve been tackling this exact compute bottleneck with PolyTSP—engineering a purely deterministic, polynomial-time optimization core. By bypassing the massive memory overhead of traditional dynamic programming, it provides a lean, exact-bound mathematical foundation to execute these complex, AI-driven batched routes without compounding server strain. Scaling frontend discovery requires a backend math engine that scales just as efficiently. Phenomenal milestone for the DoorDash team!
