Rising temperatures and water scarcity are among the #MiddleEast's most pressing challenges, with far-reaching implications for jobs, food security, and economic resilience. That is why IFC - International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of The World Bank Group (WBG), is investing in Jordan Kuwait Bank's second green bond, building on our landmark partnership that helped launch #Jordan's first green bond in 2023. This investment aligns with WBG’s priorities in Jordan, which aim to support job creation and enhance economic resilience and sustainability, in line with the country's Economic Modernisation Vision - رؤية التحديث الاقتصادي. Proceeds from this bond will finance water, energy, and sustainable urban development projects, accelerating Jordan's transition to a more sustainable and resilient economy. The investment is further strengthened by a performance-based incentive under the IFC-UK Market Accelerator for Green Construction (MAGC), a blended finance program supported by the United Kingdom through the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. We look forward to building on this momentum together.
An important step for Jordan and the region. Mobilizing green finance is essential to accelerating investments in water, energy, and sustainable urban development. As climate pressures intensify, strengthening the link between finance, resilience, and food security will be key to delivering lasting impact. Congratulations to IFC, Jordan Kuwait Bank, and all partners involved
Congratulations to IFC and Jordan Kuwait Bank on this important milestone. Sustainable finance is becoming a key enabler of resilient municipalities and climate-smart infrastructure. Wishing this initiative great success in supporting Jordan’s long-term economic and environmental resilience.
Only the non riba food based financial system can accomplish this mission.
This is great. We also need to make a few additional steps as per the ministry of environment’s new strategy including an increase in Jordan’s protected areas.
