CTO @ DX, Developer Intelligence Platform

How does GitHub approach measuring developer productivity, and the impact of AI in their own engineering organisation? With DX. With 150M+ developers using their platform and thousands of engineers building GitHub itself, developer productivity is central to their ability to innovate, attract talent, and deliver value to customers. We're so proud to partner with GitHub as they continue to define the future of software development. Data from DX now informs decisions and investments at every level of the org--from senior leadership to team managers--across AI tools, modern services, and monoliths.

It's a journey to figure out what are the right levers to pull for true impact from AI tools and workflows, and DX is helping us see things more clearly. I am very glad we are anchoring our understanding on both qualitative and quantitative data!

The same way you test any other complex system. Change a variable, measure results, and record. Change another variable, measure results, and record. This is why large efforts to revamp entire workflows have a tendency to fail and create illusions of productivity -- because the baseline and all ability to obtain differential metric was destroyed.
