How to validate an idea in 20 minutes? (Without building anything.) Most people think validation takes weeks. 𝐈𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬. Here’s a simple process you can use anytime: 1️⃣ 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (3 minutes) If you can’t explain it clearly, the idea isn’t ready. Clarity is your first filter. 2️⃣ 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 (5 minutes) Google the problem. Check Reddit, Amazon reviews, forums. You’re not looking for answers – you’re looking for proof people care. 3️⃣ 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (4 minutes) Competitors = validation. No competitors = danger. If people are already solving the problem, it means the problem is real. 4️⃣ 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫 (5 minutes) One conversation beats 100 hours of thinking. Ask: “How do you solve this now?” “What’s the hardest part?” “If this existed, would it help?” Don’t pitch. Just listen. 5️⃣ 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (3 minutes) If the sentence becomes clearer after the steps above → you’ve validated the direction. If it becomes more confusing → you’ve just saved yourself months of building the wrong thing. 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟 – 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬.
