Turns out, the Internet is just an AWS wrapper 👏😭 AWS’s US-East-1 went down yesterday, taking half the internet with it: → Snapchat, Fortnite, Amazon & Alexa → Coinbase, Robinhood, even airlines → Netflix buffering like it’s 2008 Over 6.5 million outage reports. 4 million users affected. All because a DNS bug tripped one data center 🤷♂️ It’s funny until you realize how fragile this all is. One glitch → hundreds of billions lost. The cloud was supposed to make us resilient. AWS went down, and suddenly half the startups realized what their “AI infrastructure” really is. 😅 Linas makes you wonder… how long until electricity in Europe doubles in price too?
AWS was so solid for so many years. Mistakes happen in every company, but unfortunately, this one was an expensive one. As an engineer its these kind of outages that teach lot of things than anything else.
