Our contributors take us from the origins of the term creative industries’ to the, often quoted but less acted-on, value of the creative economy in the UK; from the importance of creative education to the ND community to the laying bare of enduring myths – and truths – concerning the obstacles and opportunities within the sector. Problems are explained and addressed; solutions are explored and offered. Resistance, resilience and advocacy confront struggle, misunderstanding and systemic barriers; all of these terms occur and re-occur throughout the contributions here.

Curious about our work with displaced youth and unaccompanied minors in Athens? Here is a snapshot of our key impact data from 2024. In Athens, we recognised a critical gap in support for forcibly displaced young adults who do not receive any guidance with their integration into Greek society. Our initiative aims to bridge this gap by providing not only a temporary home where residents can have agency over their living conditions, but also essential access to support and guidance to navigate the bureaucratic steps of becoming a legal adult, entering the job market, and integrating smoothly into the community. It's an incredibly monumental moment in Victoria - with the first formal Statewide Treaty legislation now tabled in parliament. If passed, this groundbreaking reform will finally centralise First Nations Peoples' decision-making power, truth-telling education, and accountability mechanisms. It'll be a signal to the rest of the country, that treaty is our chance to right the wrongs of the past and create a better future together. But we know how progress can be threatened - especially when the loudest voices oppose meaningful change. The LGBTQIA+ community has often experienced this, and we've lived through that fight. Now is our moment to show up in solidarity, to amplify First Nations voices, and to help ensure this historical treaty becomes reality. Let's bring our energy, our advocacy, and our commitment to walk with the First Peoples' next step to securing a better future. Learn more, take action: https://lnkd.in/gXSyPnqk

Young people worldwide are leading protests and demanding change, yet they remain largely excluded from the decision-making tables. The Open Government Partnership’s story on “The Youth Participation Crisis” by Santiago Barrail and Shally Baloch reveals how governments and civil society can turn youth activism into lasting reform, by creating safe, meaningful spaces for young people to co-design policies and rebuild trust in public institutions. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dZSirfT6 👀 Stay tuned for more from efforts by the Youth Democracy Cohort and Accountability Lab at the upcoming OGP Global Summit in Vitoria, Spain.
Young people have historically been at the forefront of change. Yet youth engagement in formal politics has been experiencing a steady decline in recent decades, often because young voices are excluded from decision-making spaces. But this isn't the full story. As young activists create their own spaces and embrace new strategies, now is the time for governments to rethink how they work with the next generation of reformers. Learn what the open government community can do to support the political engagement of young people in a new blog by Shally Baloch (Accountability Lab) and Santiago Barrail (Youth Democracy Cohort). https://lnkd.in/eUHjCD_p
